“I have made a covenant with my eyes; Why then should I look upon a young woman? (Job 31:1)
A church member recently told me about his experience of walking past the office of one of his business partners. As he glanced into the room, he was shocked to see this person consumed by pornographic material on a computer screen that could be easily seen from the outside. When this church member asked his colleague, instead of being ashamed and hiding it, his partner eagerly offered to show him more. With the ready access to the Internet instantaneously at our fingertips, preoccupation with pornography during working hours has become commonplace.
The commonly used excuse, “It’s not hurting anyone”, is a lie. It diminishes your effectiveness at work: it destroys your integrity; damages your thinking processes; and threatens the relationships that you hold dear. Long before the Internet was introduced, Jesus spoke about the deceptiveness of lust in Matthew 5:27-28, “You have heard that it was said to those of old, “You shall not commit adultery. ‘But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman with lust for her, has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
Remember, Lord Jesus does not abandon the sinner. He does not depart from him. Wait in His love. “Build yourselves up in the Holy Spirit” (Jude 20) through prayer, fasting and the Word.
Prayer
Father, open the eyes of my understanding, cause me to see the error of my ways and turn away from lust. Cover my eyes and my thoughts with your precious blood. In Jesus’ Name. Amen
