"For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them." (Hebrews 4:2)
Unbelief is a wall that can hinder our spiritual growth and prevent us from experiencing the fullness of God's blessings. Psalm 78:41 says, "Yes, again and again, they tempted God, And limited the Holy One of Israel." In other words, as powerful as God is, and with a desire to bless us, we can limit His hand and power in our lives. How? Through unbelief.
When we doubt God's promises, we limit what He can do in our lives. We build walls of doubt and scepticism that can be hard to break down. The Bible says in Hebrews 11:6, "But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." In other words, without faith in God and His word, we limit His hand and manifestations in our lives.
The people didn't enjoy divine profiting and provisions because they lacked faith. They were eaten up with unbelief. The Bible records an instance in Matthew 9:29-30, "Then He touched their eyes, saying, "According to your faith let it be to you." And their eyes were opened." These men came after Jesus to receive healing; they were obviously blind. So, why didn't Jesus simply heal them? After all, He is all-powerful. But He said your healing is based on your faith. Just imagine that these people only believed that one eye would open. Obviously, that would be their reality. So, you can imagine how limited God's blessings are in your life due to unbelief.
God doesn't force His way on anyone, but we all step into new dimensions of God's blessings by faith. The good news is that with God's grace, it can be done.
#1: One of the most powerful ways to break down the wall of unbelief is by meditating on God's Word. The Bible says in Romans 10:17, "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." We have a responsibility to build our faith in God by diligent study of God's word. You stab your unbelief to death with the sword of faith. And faith is built on God's word.
#2: Another way to break down the wall of unbelief is through prayer. In Mark 9:23, Jesus said, "All things are possible for one who believes." When we pray, we acknowledge our dependence on God and express our faith in His power. Praying to God is handing over the battle to God so His mighty hand can see us through.
#3: Praying in the Spirit is another way to develop your faith. The Bible says in Jude 20, "But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit," Your faith is developed when you spend time praying in the Spirit.
#4: We can also break down the wall of unbelief by surrounding ourselves with mature spirit-filled Christians. Hebrews 10:24-25 says, "And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." Who do you surround yourself with? Who are your closest friends? Your companion is vital to who you become. So, keep Godly company. Always attend church services and allow the warmth of faith around you.
Breaking down the wall of unbelief requires a conscious effort on our part.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, I thank you for the truth of your word. I pray that you help me to follow and align my life after you. I pray for the grace to always study your word so I can build my faith in you. I open my heart so the truth of your word may penetrate my soul. I pray that from now my faith shall not fail. Every wall of unbelief in my life is broken today. In Jesus' name. Amen.
