Storms
In the midst of life's storms, it is natural for our faith to be tested. When challenges arise, we, like the disciples, often find ourselves questioning, “Master, do You not care that we are perishing?” (Mark 4:38). It is in these moments that our faith is pushed to its limits. We are not alone in this struggle; even those who have witnessed the power of Jesus firsthand have been known to doubt His care.
1. Remember that you are not alone in your struggle
Throughout the Bible, there are numerous instances of individuals questioning God's care for them during times of difficulty. In the story of the disciples caught in a storm, they doubted Jesus' concern, asking, "Master, do You not care that we are perishing?" (Mark 4:38). Similarly, Martha felt overwhelmed with her responsibilities and asked Jesus, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone?" (Luke 10:40). These examples remind us that even the most faithful can struggle with doubt in times of trial.
Reaching the stage of questioning God's care for us can have serious consequences. It is during these times that we may withdraw from our spiritual practices. Our prayers become fewer and further between, and we may even stop reading the Bible or attending church services or serving the Lord. We may find ourselves questioning God's love and asking, "Lord, if you really care, why would this happen in the first place?"
2. Lean on the promises of God
When our faith wavers, it is important to turn to the promises of God found in scripture. The Bible is filled with verses that remind us of God's care and concern for us. One such verse is Isaiah 41:10, which says, "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." By immersing ourselves in the word of God, we can find strength and reassurance in times of uncertainty.
3. Reflect on God's faithfulness
In moments of doubt, it is helpful to reflect on the countless times God has demonstrated His faithfulness. Throughout the Bible, we see examples of God's unwavering commitment to His people. In the story of the Israelites, God guided them through the wilderness and provided for their needs (Exodus 16). In the New Testament, Lord Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead, and offered hope to the hopeless (Matthew 9). Remembering these stories can help restore our faith in God's care for us.
4. Pray and seek support from fellow believers
Prayer is a powerful way to reconnect with God when our faith is shaken. In Philippians 4:6-7, Paul encourages us to turn to God in prayer during times of need, saying, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Seeking support from fellow believers can also help strengthen our faith and remind us of God's presence in our lives. If you are connected to the Karuna Sadan Church, one of the ways you can do this is by coming under a J-12 leader.
Prayer
Father, in times of doubt and difficulty, help me remember that my faith is not based on circumstances but on your unwavering love and care. Help me grow in the wisdom from your word. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
