Drawing on God’s Grace

We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain. (2 Corinthians 6:1)

There are times in our lives when we have actually hit rock bottom. When we have seemingly nothing left but questions, confusion, and frustrations. At such times we need to put into action what Hebrews 4:16 tells us. Let us, therefore, come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)

Carefully notice the words ‘obtain’ and ‘find’. The early church was at such a period in the book of Acts, the Bible says that “Herod the king stretched out his hand to harass some from the church.” (Acts 12:1) Herod started large-scale persecution. James was killed, and Peter was imprisoned to be prosecuted. Amid their frustration, fear, and confusion: The Bible says in Acts 12 that the church gathered and started praying earnestly.

Prayer is the process through which we draw upon the grace of God.

They drew strength and prayed till a supernatural miracle was provoked: an angel was sent from God to deliver Peter. When we draw from God’s grace it provokes the supernatural! In the same vein, Christians have been called to jointly labour with God. God is never unfaithful; hence, He has imputed grace for us.

There is a degree and measure of grace that is in the life of all those who believe in Lord Jesus Christ. This grace is not a tag to be left dormant, but we are meant to tap into it to draw all we need for life and ministry.

Throughout the Old Testament, there were laws and religious rituals that had to be followed in order to be at peace with God. Christ came to die once and for all so that we would no longer live our lives trying to satisfy numerous religious laws and rituals that are difficult to abide by but that we might live the life of God through supernatural empowerment.

Grace has been provided for us through Christ to live the life of God. This life is what the Bible also calls the ‘life of the Spirit.’ It is a purely spiritual life that is controlled by God’s Spirit in us. Hence, you need to draw from God’s grace as a sure way to always abide in His sufficiency.

The Bible says ‘by strength, no man shall prevail’ (1 Samuel 2:9) and ‘he gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6) Do you struggle to fulfil God’s commandment? It might be because you’re trying to live the spiritual life by man’s wisdom.

If you fully depend on His grace and run to Him, He is ‘faithful and just’ (1 John 1:9) to help you. Today, you must be careful to make God’s grace the fuel through which you are sustained. Are you ready to draw from the well of grace today?

Lord, help me to always draw my strength from You. As I go out today, I receive the grace to fully look up to You for grace and help. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
