Intimacy with God
He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, and to love kindness and mercy, and to humble yourself and walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8)
So Prophet Samuel said: "has the Lord a great delight in burnt offering and sacrifice. As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice. And to heed than the fat of rams (1 Samuel 15:22)
It is true God has no favourite, yet among His beloved children, He has His intimates. They are the ones who commit themselves to make His favourite things their favourite things. Therefore, if you can only learn what He favours, you too can become His intimate. The prophet Micah gives us a clue of God's favourite things: Justice, Mercy and Humility.
Justice: The Mosaic Law is full of provisions to guarantee fair and equal treatment for all people, especially the weak and powerless in society. God is just, and His intimates among His children are those who are just as committed as He is to justice for everyone.
Mercy: Mercy is such a rare commodity in our times. It is much easier to be judgemental of others than to extend mercy. Judgement can be given from a distance, but mercy means we have to become personally involved. Do you know if you give mercy out, it comes back to you? Lord Jesus said, "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy." (Matthew 5:7). The King is merciful, and His intimates are merciful also.
Humility: Humility is the master key to His abiding presence. Lord Jesus said, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:3). Humility is another word for "poor in spirit." The more we know how needy we are, the more we will depend on the Lord. Do you want to be one of God's intimates? Then fall in love with justice, mercy and humility-His favourite things.
