While I was growing up in a faith-centred environment, it was common to hear godly men and women talk about pleading the blood of Christ over their loved ones, homes, and families for protection from the powers of the enemy. Some Bible teachers, however, suggest that the idea of pleading the blood is better referred to as confessing the blood over a situation.
And they overcame him (the devil) by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. (Revelation 12:11)
The story of Passover is a testament to the power of faith and obedience. God instructed the children of Israel in Egypt to place the blood of a lamb on the doorposts of their homes. As the angel of death passed through the land, it spared the households with the blood marking their doors. (Exodus 12)
Hundreds of years later, in 1 Chronicles 21:14-28, King David sinned by taking a census of Israel, which led to a devastating plague that cost the lives of seventy thousand men. Realizing his error, David sought God's mercy and forgiveness. The Lord instructed David to build an altar and offer an animal sacrifice. David's repentance and obedience in offering a blood sacrifice led to the cessation of the plague, sparing countless lives.
In Exodus 29:39, God provided specific instructions to the priests regarding offering a lamb in the morning and another in the evening. This practice can be seen as a symbolic representation of the need for believers to continually rely on the power and protection of Jesus' blood throughout the day.
By covering ourselves with the blood of Jesus every morning, we begin our day with a sense of security and confidence in the Lord's protection. This act of faith allows us to face the day's challenges with renewed strength and determination, knowing that we are walking in alignment with God's will.
As we conclude our day, covering ourselves with the blood of Jesus once more serves as a reminder of God's unwavering presence in our lives. As we entrust our night to the Lord, we can find peace and rest in the assurance that He will continue to watch over us and provide the spiritual restoration we need for the following day.
You can plead the blood of Jesus over any person or situation. For example, as your children are about to go to school or college, say, "In the Name of Jesus, I cover (name of your child) with the blood of Jesus." As you drive, say, "In the Name of Jesus, I cover this vehicle, all who are in it and my journey with the blood of Jesus. We will go and come back in perfect safety."
When you learn how to plead the blood of Jesus, you are taking power and authority granted to you by God Himself and putting it to work in your life, just as He intended. Nothing can stand against the power of the blood! So, start pleading the blood of Jesus in your life with confidence and boldness, and watch the devil flee!
Prayer
I apply the blood of Jesus over my thoughts, words and dream life. Let every stubborn problem in my life be defeated by the blood of the lamb. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
