After accepting Lord Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Saviour, I started attending a spirit-filled church. After the service was over, there was a small group of boys (three of them) who invited me to have tea with them.
They worked in a nearby hotel as waiters. While having tea we would talk about the Lord, share scriptures, etc. Also, they would share some Christian books with me when they knew I liked to read books. Our fellowship would not be long (45mins). One day, when I did not attend church, they even called on my neighbor’s landline. It made me feel so good, so accepted.
Scripture clearly says:
As iron sharpens iron, so a man (mentor) sharpens the countenance of his friend. (Proverbs 27:17)
Today the sad part of Church is, people, attend and leave – no one wants to connect, no one wants to submit. But you see real growth takes place when you submit; when you connect to someone. I thank God that in my early days and even today I continue to do this.
Very often the following scriptures are used in a marriage ceremony. But the application of these scriptures is not just limited to marriage and can be applied to mentoring as well.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up.
I believe every Christian needs a spiritual mentor. Here’s why?
#1: It’s biblical.
Moses mentored Joshua. Jethro mentored Moses. Naomi had Ruth. Elijah had Elisha. Jesus mentored His disciples. Paul had Timothy. Apostle Paul Himself told us that elders must teach and mentor the next generation (Titus 2).
#2: All of us have blind spots
By definition, a “blind spot” is something we don’t see. So, if you say you don’t have blind spots, you just admitted you do. We need someone else to help us see ourselves fully.
#3: People are God’s gift to us
Someone said, “When God gives us a gift, He wraps it in a person.” We miss this gift when no one walks beside us to guide and encourage us.
This is one of the most neglected principles in today’s times. The benefits are invaluable and provide a lifeline in the sea of life that has far too many storms.
At Karuna Sadan, we have something called a J-12 leader, who in turn reports to a Pastor, who in turn reports to me. When you are under a J-12 leader, this person acts as a mentor and a facilitator and aids spiritual growth. Many have testified to this.
If you are part of Karuna Sadan, then I highly recommend you be under some leader. If you would like to be under a leader, you could call the KSM office. Also, if you are part of some other church, I encourage you to pray and find one to whom you can submit. The benefits are priceless.
Mentoring relationships are not easy and may have its ups and downs but remember that God is at work through all this. (Read Romans 8:28)
Prayer
1.If you remember, we are fasting every Tue/Thu/Sat of the week
2.Each prayer point must be prayed at least for 2 minutes and more
3.Also, use these prayer points on the days you are not fasting
Personal Spiritual Growth
(Pray this if you don’t have a mentor): Father, give me a mentor that can truly pour Your presence and truths into my life.
(Pray this if you have a mentor): Father, I thank You for ………. I speak a blessing upon him/her and his family. In Jesus' name. Amen.
[Always pray regularly for your mentor]
Family Salvation
Father, Your word says, “no one can come to [Jesus] unless the Father draws them” (John 6:44). I ask that You draw all my members to Your Son Jesus, that they may know You personally and spend eternity with You.
Financial Breakthrough
Oh Lord deliver me from profitless and fruitless labour in Jesus name. Please bless the work of my hands. From now on all my investments and labour since the beginning of my career and ministry will begin to yield their full profit in Jesus name.
KSM Church:
Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray that Pastor Michael, his family members and all his team members would be in good health. Let Your peace surround them and their family members.
Country:
Father, in the name of Jesus, raise up leaders, men and women of wisdom and understanding to administer this nation
