Angelic Appearances in a Dream

Angels are messengers of God; this is one of their duties. They are sent to the children of God as servants bringing His message. The bible says:

Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation? (Hebrews 1:14)

They have various ways of manifesting when they come to us. One of them is through our dreams.

Many examples we find in the Scriptures of men who received instructions that changed the course of their destiny, all through the word of an angel who appeared to them in their dreams. This is a valid Kingdom system through which God speaks to His people, or gives them spiritual encounters.

Follow the story of Jacob:

“Then he (Jacob) dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven, and there the angels of God were ascending and descending upon it.” (Genesis 28:12)

Jacob is on the run from his own brother Esau who is after his life after he cheated him out of his inheritance. He then has an angelic encounter in his dream, one that would change his life. God spoke to him in that very place, and he was inducted into the blessing of his father Abraham and began his walk with God.

In the Old and New Testament, angels would appear to the patriarchs, the prophets and others in the form of men.

“And while they (the apostles) looked steadfastly toward heaven as He (Lord Jesus) went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel” (Acts 1:10)

These appearances were at times in visible human form and at other times in dreams or visions. They always came with a message.

Obviously, they were not wearing white linen and did not have two golden wings all the time. They had a voice and tone very similar to that of human men.

In the Book of Hebrews, the writer informs the reader that we should be careful when entertaining strangers, for we may be unaware that they are angels (Hebrews 13:2). So, they can come in this physical form or in a dream, either ways, they come with a purpose that we need to pay attention to.

When I was a young boy, I had a very personal encounter with an angel that saved me from drowning.

Many people write to me saying that they saw me in a dream, but the dream or vision has biblical symbolism and imagery and the person is bringing a message from the Lord.

I truly believe that one of the reasons that the Lord allows an angel to appear in the form of a normal-looking man in a dream is because of the mental, physical, and spiritual responses we would encounter if the Lord showed us the full glory of the cherubim, seraphim, or the living creatures would be too overwhelming for us to handle. When men saw angels in their fullness in the Bible, they fell to the ground! In Daniel 10, when Prophet Daniel saw the angel, he was on his face on the ground.

And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision; but a great terror fell upon them so that they fled to hide themselves. Therefore I was left alone when I saw this great vision, and no strength remained in me; for my vigor was turned to frailty in me, and I retained no strength. Yet I heard the sound of his words; and while I heard the sound of his words I was in a deep sleep on my face, with my face to the ground.” (Daniel 10:7-9)

Even the donkey of Balaam fell down at the presence of an angel (Numbers 22:27).

Angels are also glorious in appearance and can make even the strongest of men quiver in fear. The appearance of angels to the saints is always a good sign, because while they may be messengers of judgment to the ungodly, we have nothing to fear, but expect good things. (Psalms 91:11)

God sends angels into different people’s dreams with messages, like Joseph during the birth of Lord Jesus.

Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:19-21)

And again,

Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, ‘Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.’” (Matthew 2:13)

And also,

Now when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying, ‘Arise, take the young Child and His mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the young Child’s life are dead.’” (Matthew 2:19-20)

Throughout Scripture, God has sent angels to people, sometimes in their dreams, and sometimes physically. We must be spiritually alert to this system because they are always a source of help to God’s people, and when we see angels in our dreams even today, we can be sure that it is for good.

Many people do not have much regard for dreams, because they claim that many people have been easily misled through dreams. While this may have some iota of truth, however, I have not yet heard of any man or woman, in the bible or today, who truly walked with God and was misled by a false angel in a dream.

Angelic appearances in dreams are just as vital as the physical encounters we may enjoy. These should also be regarded as a valid Kingdom encounter and should not be looked down on or discouraged because God has used it in the past and can still use it today.

Because I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, angels have been sent to minister to me. They respond to the Word of God which I speak. Therefore, I set angels into motion with the words of my mouth. Angels appear in my dreams with divine messages from the LORD.

Family Salvation

Father, I thank You that Your mercies are new each day. Surely Your goodness and mercy shall follow me and my family members all the days of our lives and we will dwell in the presence of the Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
