An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream with a message so urgent that it couldn't wait for morning light. “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him" (Matthew 2:13).
What's fascinating is that Joseph didn't hesitate. Despite the absurdity of the moment, the inconvenience, and the risk, Joseph got up and led his family to Egypt in the dead of the night. His immediate obedience saved Jesus, fulfilling the prophecy: "Out of Egypt I called My Son" (Matthew 2:15).
Our lives are inundated with noise: social media updates, news cycles, and the latest trends. Amidst this noise, the voice of God often comes as a "gentle whisper". “And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.” (1 Kings 19:12).
Just like the angel spoke to Joseph in a dream, God may be speaking to you right now in a still, small voice, nudging you towards a direction, away from potential harm or towards a great blessing.
Joseph's obedience was not just accurate; it was timely. "When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt" (Matthew 2:14). In our spiritual walk, it's often not enough to just hear God's voice; timing is of the essence.
Think about Noah building the ark (Genesis 6) or Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt (Exodus 12-14). It wasn't merely about doing what God said but doing it when He said it.
Joseph's story shows that listening to and acting on divine guidance can have ripple effects that go far beyond our understanding. As you walk through today, tune your ears to His voice, and be ready to move. Your obedience could be the tipping point for a future you can't yet see.
Prayer
Father, give us ears to hear Your voice clearly and hearts obedient to act swiftly upon Your instruction. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
