"Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk." (Acts 3:6)
Peter didn't offer him money; he gave him something far more valuable. With a touch and a command, the lame man found his feet and ankles receiving strength. He stood up and started not just to walk but to leap! He followed Peter and John into the temple, "walking, leaping, and praising God" (Acts 3:8).
When the astonished crowd gathered, Peter swiftly redirected their awe. They were marvelling as if their human ability or saintliness had performed this miracle. But Peter wanted them to understand that the healing was not a demonstration of their power or holiness.
"The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His Servant Jesus..." (Acts 3:13)
The glory went to God the Father and Jesus, the Prince of Life, whom the very crowd had denied. Peter emphasised the faith that comes through Jesus Christ, which provides "perfect soundness" (Acts 3:16).
How does all this apply to us today?
1. God's Grace is Sufficient:
Sometimes, we’re fixated on the material, just like the lame man initially sought alms. But God offers us much more—He offers us grace. As it is written, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness" (2 Corinthians 12:9).
2. Redirect the Glory:
Achievements, healing, and breakthroughs are not solely the products of our merit or power. Like Peter and John, we must point people to the true source of miracles. "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16).
3. Faith Unlocks Divine Potential:
The lame man was healed because of faith in the name of Jesus. Are there areas in your life in need of healing or change? The Bible tells us, "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours" (Mark 11:24).
4. Be a Witness:
Just like Peter and John, we are called to be witnesses of Christ's resurrection and the transformation it can bring. "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses..." (Acts 1:8). Always make it a point to lead people to Christ wherever you are placed.
The remarkable healing of the lame man offers more than just a story of a miracle; it provides a template of faith, humility, and the omnipotent grace of God that is available to us all. Let’s step out in faith, give God the glory, and be a living testimony to His incredible power.
Prayer
Father, help us to live lives of faith that point to Your glory, not ours. May we be vessels of Your power so that others may believe and be healed, In Jesus' name. Amen.
