“You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 2:5)
The jubilant scene of King David bringing the Ark of the Covenant back to Jerusalem paints a vivid portrait of divine intimacy and humility. David, adorned not in royal attire but in the garb of a common priest, danced with great joy before the ark of the Lord, illustrating the love and devotion he harboured for the Lord (2 Samuel 6:14).
His wife, Michal, watching this public display of unbridled worship, was very angry. To her, the king had discarded his royal stature, mingling indistinctly with the common people (2 Samuel 6:16). Yet, it is this very act of humility and fervent worship that God desires from us—His royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9).
When we, the children of God, gather to worship, we enter into a divine congregation where worldly titles and positions mean nothing. In His presence, we are not bankers, lawyers, etc.; we are united in our priestly role, offering praises to our King. It’s a place where every believer, clothed in the linen ephod of spiritual equality, lifts their voices in unison to magnify the King of kings and the Lord of lords.
The earthly church is a reflection of the heavenly throne room. It’s a place where diverse backgrounds and statuses converge in harmonious worship, embodying the essence of the Kingdom of Heaven where every tribe, tongue, and nation will stand before the Lamb, offering eternal praises (Revelation 7:9).
Scripture says in Revelation 4:10, “The twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne.” Likewise, we are called to shed our worldly distinctions and don the garments of spiritual unity, immersing ourselves in the worship of the Great High Priest—Jesus.
Today, examine your approach to worship. Are you clinging to your ‘kingly robes,’ or are you willing to clothe yourself in ‘a linen ephod’ to join the royal priesthood in unadulterated worship?
Prayer
Lord, grant us the grace to strip away our worldly robes and embrace our role as your priests. Let our hearts be united in worship, seeing each believer as a fellow priest in Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
