"So, teach us to number our days so that we may get a heart of wisdom." (Psalm 90:12)
There are hardly two and a half months remaining for the New Year 2024 to begin. How fast this year has gone by. Someone once said, “Time and tide wait for no man”. Each tick of the clock is a nudge, a reminder of the finite nature of our existence on this earth.
The Bible warns us, "Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil." (Ephesians 5:15-16)
It's easy to let days, weeks, and even months slip through our fingers like grains of sand without tangible accomplishments or growth. As the Apostle Paul suggests in Ephesians, our walk through life should be filled with intention and wisdom. And the arrival of 2024 should make us think deeply. Are we living our days aligned with our divine purpose?
Often, we're surrounded by voices, tasks, and requests that vie for our attention. But are they worthy of the time they demand? If we are not careful, we might find ourselves pulled in directions far from where God wants us to be.
"But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, 'You are my God.' My times are in your hand..." (Psalm 31:14-15)
Remember, our time is a divine gift, and it's essential to treat it as such. To be intentional is to acknowledge that our time, indeed our very lives, are in the hands of the Almighty. Every moment we are given is an opportunity to further His kingdom.
As the year winds down, consider this: Are your goals aligned with the grand plans God has set out for you? When we sync our ambitions with divine purpose, we experience fulfilment and peace unmatched by worldly pursuits.
God's plans for us are rooted in love, hope, and prosperity. It's crucial, then, to discern His voice amid the clamour and chaos of the world. This discernment helps guide our path, ensuring that our goals mirror His desires for us.
Possibly, one of the most challenging aspects of intentional living is saying "no." Not every opportunity is a God-given one. And not every person who crosses our path is meant to journey with us to our divine destination.
"But the Lord said to Samuel, 'Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.'" (1 Samuel 16:7)
Let this scripture be a compass. The world may value the superficial and the glamorous, but God looks at the inner man and the motives behind everything. Have the courage to decline offers, relationships, or opportunities that do not resonate with God's plans and purposes for you.
Prayer
Father, as the countdown to the New Year begins, anchor us in Your purpose. May every tick of the clock echo Your divine intention in our hearts, guiding us only to choose paths that glorify Your name. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
