Remaining Steadfast Amidst Prevailing Immorality

"Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot …" (Luke 17:28)

In the world today, we observe patterns and tendencies that echo past civilisations and their transgressions. Particularly sad is the parallel between our present culture and the days of Lot, a time when the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were deep in their moral decay. We are reminded in Genesis that the sun shone, the people went about their daily lives, and no immediate signs of impending doom appeared. Yet, unknown to many, judgment was on the horizon.

Sodom was marked by its rampant sexual immorality, to the point where they brazenly sought after the angels visiting Lot, desiring illicit relations with them (Genesis 19:1-5). Their audacity and lack of moral restraint are indeed shocking. In today’s climate, we too often see blatant disregard for godly values, with society increasingly pushing boundaries and neglecting foundational principles for carnal desires.

Yet, amidst this, the Bible provides guidance, wisdom, and hope. Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 3:1-5, "But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power." Paul's words are not meant to instill fear but to prepare us so we remain vigilant and resilient in our faith.

But how do we remain resilient?

1. Ground Yourself in the Word:

"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." (Psalm 119:105) As the world grows murkier, the Word of God stands as our guiding light, illuminating our path and ensuring we don’t stumble in the darkness.

2. Be Part of a Godly Church/Leadership:

Ecclesiastes 4:12 states, "And though one might prevail against another, two will withstand one. A threefold cord is not quickly broken." Being connected to the house of God is so important in these last days, or you could be swept away by the flood of filth. Also, one should be connected to leadership that will build your spirit, enabling us to stand firm against moral decline. 3. Seek the LORD in Prayer and Fasting:

Prayer and Fasting is key in these last days. This will keep the fire of God burning in your spirit-man. As Apostle Paul encourages in 1 Thessalonians 5:17, we should "pray without ceasing."

4. Be the Light:

Instead of cursing the darkness, we are called to shine brightly. Matthew 5:14-16 reminds us, "You are the light of the world… Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."

To navigate these tumultuous times, we need not be overwhelmed by the flood of immorality but rather focus on the eternal light that never dims – Lord Jesus Christ. Hebrews 12:2 encourages us to "fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith." He walked on this Earth, felt our temptations, faced our challenges, yet remained sinless. In Him, we find our blueprint, our source of strength, and our beacon of hope.
