Day 03: 40 Days Fasting & Prayer

“I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.” (Psalms 118:17)

It is God's will for us to fulfil our destinies and to die at a good old age. His will for our lives does not include premature death or a life filled with sickness, pain, evil, and disease.

Death means "separation or termination." The devil seeks to separate us from God and aims to terminate our divine assignments on earth; we must forcefully resist this and destroy his weapons.

There are three major types of deaths:

1. Spiritual death

Spiritual death is when God’s Spirit is separated from man’s spirit. The first death that Adam and Eve experienced was spiritual; they were separated from God’s spirit. “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” (Genesis 2:17)

2. Physical death

Physical death is the separation of the spirit from the physical body.

After Adam experienced spiritual death, it took 930 years before he experienced physical death, but the physical death was a result of the spiritual death that he experienced after disobeying God. “So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years; and he died.” (Genesis 5:5)

3. Eternal death

Eternal death is when man’s spirit is permanently separated from God’s Spirit, without remedy.

⁷ and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power. (2 Thessalonians 1:7-9)

Notice the phrase, everlasting destruction.

But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” (Revelations 21:8) The second death is eternal death.

Causes of Premature Death

Premature death is when someone passes away before achieving their potential; some people pass away at the point of enjoying all that they have laboured for. All of these reveal the operations of the devil (to kill, steal, and destroy, see John 10:10).

1.Sinful lifestyle

²⁰ And Achan answered Joshua and said, "Indeed I have sinned against the Lord God of Israel, and this is what I have done: ²¹ When I saw among the spoils a beautiful Babylonian garment, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. And there they are, hidden in the earth in the midst of my tent, with the silver under it."

²⁵ And Joshua said, "Why have you troubled us? The Lord will trouble you this day." So all Israel stoned him with stones, and they burned them with fire after they had stoned them with stones.

²⁶ Then they raised over him a great heap of stones, still there to this day. So the Lord turned from the fierceness of His anger. Therefore the name of that place has been called the Valley of Achor to this day. (Joshua 7:20-21,25-26)

Achan died a premature death because of his grave sin.

Constant disobedience to the word of God and a sinful lifestyle can attract death, it may take a while before the death manifests, but it is bound to happen.

2. The wickedness of men

Who sharpen their tongue like a sword,

And bend their bows to shoot their arrows—bitter words (Psalm 64:3)

Now Cain talked with Abel, his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel, his brother and killed him. (Genesis 4:8)

The heart of man is filled with wicked thoughts and selfish motives. The wickedness in the hearts of men causes them to kill their loved ones and the people around them

3. Spiritual attacks

¹⁷ But the woman conceived, and bore a son when the appointed time had come, of which Elisha had told her.

¹⁸ And the child grew. Now it happened one day that he went out to his father, to the reapers. ¹⁹ And he said to his father, "My head, my head!"

So he said to a servant, "Carry him to his mother." ²⁰ When he had taken him and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon and then died. (2 Kings 4:17-20)

The boy in this passage died without any physical cause. It was a spiritual attack on his head and health. In the Old Testament, the operations of demonic forces were seen but not understood. In the New Testament, Christ exposed the hidden works of darkness and gave us authority over these wicked demonic forces (Luke 10:19). Spiritual arrows are flying daily, and without the help of God, people can become casualties anytime. "You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day." (Psalm 91:5)

The spiritual controls the physical, and before anything happens in the physical realm, it must be concluded and executed in the spiritual realm. It takes power to survive the attacks of death. David escaped many death traps from King Saul, but Abel was innocent and yet was killed by Cain. (1 Samuel 18:11–12; Genesis 4:8). Innocent people can die when they are powerless and ignorant.

Today, we are going to pray and destroy every evil agenda designed to kill us. I prophesy over your life: You shall not die but fulfil your divine destiny in Jesus' name. Nothing in your life will die in Jesus' name.

Repeat every prayer missile till it comes from your heart. Only then move on to the next prayer missile. (Repeat it, personalise it, do this with each prayer point for a minimum 1 minute)

1. My Father, my Maker, I thank and bless You for this life You have given me. I worship You, Lord. (Psalm 139:14)

2. Father, give my family members and me the grace to walk in Your ways and keep Your statutes. Please lengthen our days in this land of the living in the name of Jesus. (Deuteronomy 5:33)

3. Jehovah Ebenezer, give my family members and me the grace to fear You all the days of our lives. In Jesus' name. (Proverbs 9:10)

4. Every sickness and disease programmed to kill my family members and me, be destroyed in Jesus' name. (Exodus 23:25)

5. Any evil planted into my body, designed to kill me prematurely, be destroyed by the fire of the Holy Ghost. (Isaiah 54:17)

6. Every strange covenant and curse that might cut short my life and the lives of my family members, by the blood of Jesus, be destroyed in Jesus' name. (Galatians 3:13)

7. Any arrow of death and pestilence walking in the night shall never locate me and my loved ones in Jesus' name. (Psalm 91:5-6 )

8. I shall not die but live to declare the glory of God in the land of the living in Jesus' name. (Psalms 118:17)

9. Resurrection power of God, bring to life any dead virtue in my life in Jesus' name. (Romans 8:11)

10. I speak life over any dead and hopeless situations in my life in Jesus' name (speak over your finances, children, business, etc.) (Ezekiel 37:5)

11. Thank God for answers to your prayers. (Spend quality time here) (Philippians 4:6)

12. Heavenly Father, strengthen my faith and trust in You amidst challenges. Help me to see Your hand in every situation, knowing that You work all things together for good for those who love You. In Jesus' name. (Romans 8:28)
