Discipleship
Meeting together regularly with a group of fellow Christians is so vital to following
Christ as His disciple. To not attend church services regularly is to ignore what the Word tells us to do. However, getting to church every Sunday morning on time can be a real challenge for the most of us.
“I truly have a desire to go and be on time, but with everything that needs to get done beforehand, it is a real struggle.” If that is your song too, then don’t let that embarrass you in any way because many are sailing in the same boat as you.
Here are some tips that have helped me over the years for getting to Church on Sunday morning. (Again, this is not to condemn you but to rather encourage you in your walk with God.)
1.Make Changes to Your Sleeping Schedule
For many beating the mattress on a Sunday morning is difficult. Your God-given day of rest must not become a ‘day of sleep”. If this sounds familiar, I have some sound advice for you that has worked for me. Go to bed a little early on Saturday. In case you are worried about not getting enough sleep, a Sunday afternoon nap would really help you. The truth is that there is no breakthrough without a sacrifice.
“Rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed” (Mark 1:35). Even the most successful people we can think of, such as athletes, have laid down something at the altar of sacrifice to get where they are. In your case, it would just be adjusting your sleep timings.
2.Turn the Internet/Wi-Fi off
Looking at it one way, you could say, “Anything goes. Because of God’s immense generosity and grace, we don’t have to dissect and scrutinize every action to see if it will pass. But the point is not to just get by. We want to live well, but our foremost efforts should be to help others live well. (1 Corinthians 10:23 MSG)
This may sound a bit radical, but turn the internet/Wi-Fi off and just go to bed! If you like me have kids, you will understand what I am saying. Kids stay up late on Saturday night, watching some movies, accessing social media etc. Initially, there were some protests, but when the family was well-rested and ready to go on Sunday morning, those protests turned into praise.
3.Chose and Iron your Clothes on Saturday Night
This one is a great hack that saves a lot of time – especially if you have a family (and kids). Pick out and iron all the clothes on Saturday night and just hang them up in an easily accessible place for the next day. Also, lay out everyone’s socks, masks, shoes, etc. – it will save you a mad scramble the next morning.
“Going to church” is not just a ritual – it’s a privilege. Our salvation is a result of Jesus Christ's death and resurrection, which brings us into connection with God and communion with other Christians. We are given the opportunity to be a part of the body of Christ. We have the opportunity to spend time with those who are also seeking to follow Him. Maintain this mindset as you prepare to attend church each Sunday.

Prayer
Blessed Holy Spirit, prepare my heart and open my eyes to receive this message of change. Help my family members and me to always be on time for church services. I will honour you not only in word but also through my actions. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
