Bind the Strong Man
"Or how can one enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house." Matthew 12:29 (NKJV)
Lord Jesus revealed a deep spiritual mystery when he mentioned the word "strongman." It was new to the people who heard him. If he had not mentioned it, none of us would have known how to overcome some situations that defy human explanation.
A strong man is a spiritual being, a powerful demon who is in charge of stealing and fighting a person's blessings and virtues. This strong man is the door opener for lesser demons to come into a person's life. It is the principal demon that controls other lesser demons.
It's painful to see that many believers don't believe or recognise the operation of a strongman in their lives. They are good and faithful believers but lack an understanding of warfare. They do not know the enemy that is fighting against them in the spiritual realm, so it becomes very difficult to deal with mysterious situations in their lives.
What are some of the activities of the strong man?
1. The strong man captures people's blessings and stores them in his spiritual house. Jesus mentioned that the strong man has a house and goods in that house. Those goods are not the properties of the strong man; they are stolen goods (Matthew 12:29). We know that the devil's sole purpose is to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). So, this strong man's possessions are stolen goods from people.
Many people are poor or stranded without help and blessings. Some are jobless, single for many years, and barren. All of these are some of the blessings that the strong man stores up as possessions in his house.
Our prayer focus today will help us to take back all the blessings that belong to us in the house of the evil strongman.
2. The strong man is the force behind stubborn problems and battles. The word "strong" connotes force, something of great impact or weight. Many believers cannot explain why some situations in their lives keep repeating. They have prayed, and it looks like there's no answer. Some pray and feel the battle is won, only to find it resurfacing. The strong man is behind repeated problems and battles. If you don't bind the strongman, you'll keep praying the same prayers for many years without a lasting solution or blessing.
3. The strongman is the force behind destructive habits and addictions. Many who are under the influence of destructive habits and addictions find it difficult to stop. They desire to stop but cannot because there is a force behind the act that overpowers their will to resist. The strongman randomly decides when he wants them to engage in the act.
As believers, we have authority over the strongman. Jesus has given us His name and has transferred sonship authority to us so that we can bind the strongman and possess our possessions.
Lord Jesus said, "... whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 18:18, NKJV)
What are we to bind?
If you look at Matthew 12:29, you will find the answer. The same word was used by Christ, "bind." If we don't bind the strongman and prayerfully recover our lost or delayed blessings, nothing will be done for us in heaven.
Are you ready to bind the strongman?
