I NEED YOUR MERCY
"But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison." (Genesis 39:21 NKJV)
One of the difficulties that people experience when they are in a strange land is that they might lack help and resources. But here is Joseph in prison, in a strange land, and everywhere he went, God showed him mercy and gave him favour in the sight of people. If Joseph could enjoy the mercy and favour of God in prison, that means he had been enjoying it even before he was in prison.
We need the mercy of God in life for us to enjoy good things from people and for us to fulfil our destiny. Without the mercy of God, many judgments and accusations from the enemy can affect our lives negatively.
We are not perfect, and that means our sinful acts that are committed by mistake can lead to judgment. But the mercy of God is what preserves us, sustains us, and causes us to enjoy His favour. Our anchor Scripture for today shows that for a man to enjoy favour, he must seek the mercy of God.
In Exodus, chapter 33, verse 19, God says, "I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion." (NIV)
When God shows a man mercy, he will enjoy the things that others are struggling to get.
Why do we need the mercy of God?
Even though I have mentioned many things, I will still give a list of things why we need the mercy of God (this is not a comprehensive list).
- We need the mercy of God to triumph over judgment. (James 2:13)
- We need the mercy of God to remove the handwriting of the wicked one against our lives. (Colossians 2:14)
- We need the mercy of God to enjoy the favour and the blessings of God.
- We need the mercy of God when we carelessly transgress His commandments.
- We need the mercy of God to enjoy the good things from God.
- We need the mercy of God to approach His presence. We cannot approach His presence without His mercy. (Exodus 25:21-22)
- We need the mercy of God to silence the accuser of our lives. (John 8:7-11)
- We need the mercy of God to stop evil, troubles, afflictions, and all manners of wicked acts that are targeted against us. It is the cry for mercy that will cause us to experience and enjoy the power and blessings of God.
In Mark 10:46-52, blind Bartimaeus cried out, "Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me." He cried for mercy. When you cry for mercy, it gets the attention of God. When the attention of Jesus was gotten through the cry of mercy, He asked him, "What do you want me to do for you?" Then he said, "I want my sight." The cry for mercy can restore anything that the devil has damaged in your body.
David is another man who enjoyed the mercy of God. He understood the mercy of God and talked about it in the Book of Psalms.
Let me show you some of the Psalms of David on the mercy of God:
- Psalm 4:1 "Answer me when I call to you, O my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; be merciful to me and hear my prayer." (NIV)
- Psalm 6:2 "Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am faint; O Lord, heal me, for my bones are in agony." (NIV)
- Psalm 9:13 "O Lord, see how my enemies persecute me! Have mercy and lift me up from the gates of death," (NIV)
- Psalm 13:5 "But I have trusted in Your mercy; My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.” (NKJV)
- Psalm 23:6 "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever. (NKJV)
- Psalm 25:7 "Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; According to Your mercy remember me, For Your goodness sake, O Lord." (NKJV)
- Psalm 30:10 “Hear, O Lord, and have mercy on me; Lord, be my helper" (NKJV)
The cry for mercy will get God's attention. It can deliver. It can heal. It can help.
- Psalm 32:10 "Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him." (NKJV)
- Psalm 33:18 "Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who hope in His mercy," (NKJV)
Today, I need you to cry out for the mercy of God. I shared some of these Psalms with you so that you will have a deeper understanding of the mercy of God. I do not know the area where you need God to intervene, but if you can cry for mercy today and specify that area where you need His mercy, you will enjoy the mercy of God.
