Sin
Every family has iniquity working in its family history.
What is iniquity?
Iniquity is the result of sins that have been operating in the family from ancestry. This is one of the main reasons why we see the same sins committed from generation to generation.
Now there are many words for sin in the bible but I want to deal with three that are important.
#1 "Hamartia" means "To miss the mark"
As one shooting in an archery competition and missing the bulls eye, and therefore failing to receive the prize, or blessing. This is the general Greek word for sin, and is used nearly 221 times in the New Testament.
"the sin (hamartia) which does so easily beset us". (Hebrews 12:1 KJV). We are aiming at God's best, but miss it.
#2 “Parabasis” means “transgression”
To transgress means to intentionally break a law. When God "draws a line in the sand", we can suffer a great loss of rewards and blessings by intentionally "stepping over".
"every transgression (parabasis) & disobedience (parakoe) received a just recompense of reward". (Hebrews 2:2 KJV)
Habitually transgressing makes sin part of you; part of your character; part of your DNA. At this stage, it becomes iniquity.
#3 “anomia” means iniquity
Jesus gave himself for us in order to "redeem us from all iniquity (anomia)". (Titus 2:14 KJV)
Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to dwell there, for the famine was severe in the land. And it came to pass, when he was close to entering Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, “Indeed I know that you are a woman of beautiful countenance. Therefore it will happen, when the Egyptians see you, that they will say, ‘This is his wife’; and they will kill me, but they will let you live. Please say you are my sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that [a]I may live because of you.” (Genesis 12:10-13)
Abraham concocted a plan to have Sarai say that she was his sister and so he could escape being killed. It was not just once, Abraham did it again.
Now Abraham said of Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah. (Genesis 20:2)
It was Abraham’s fear that caused him to do this. By doing this Sarah was put in a dangerous position where the people of the kingdom wanted to make Sarah their wife.
If Sarah was not protected, her seed would be defiled. However, it was the Lord who protected Sarah from all harm. It was the Lord who protected Abraham’s marriage.
Many years later, after Isaac was born, we find him committing the same sin.
So Isaac dwelt in Gerar. And the men of the place asked about his wife. And he said, “She is my sister”; for he was afraid to say, “She is my wife,” because he thought, “lest the men of the place kill me for Rebekah because she is beautiful to behold.” (Genesis 26: 6-7)
The interesting thing is that Isaac was not even born when Abraham resorted to manipulation and yet he repeats the same error.
Without being instructed, without being influenced or persuaded in the natural in any way, Isaac falls prey to the same sins as that of his father. He repeats his father’s sins.
This is what iniquity does. It causes generations to repeat the sins of the fathers over and over again. It gives the devil the legal right to tempt successive generations with the same sins the father fell prey to.
Today the power of iniquity will be broken over your life in Jesus' name.

Confession
Thank you, Father, for sending your Only Son, Lord Jesus Christ, to die in my place; to pay the penalty for my sins through His shed blood, and to bear the punishment for our sins and iniquities in His bruised and bleeding body on the Cross of Calvary.
I now cover myself and all my family members with the precious blood of Jesus.
I confess and renounce all idolatry, known and unknown, also all involvement with powers of darkness by my family and ancestors.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I now break and renounce all evil oaths, blood covenants, evil dedications, and all blood bondages to satan by my family and myself.
