Will of God
Solomon, one of the wisest kings to have ever lived on Earth, wrote about the power of the tongue in this profound manner:
"Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit" (Proverbs 18:21, NKJV).
This verse reveals that death does not come only from sickness, old age, accidents, and so forth but also from the tongue. Likewise, life comes not only from human activities but also from the tongue.
The verse further states that "those who love it will eat its fruit," suggesting that those who take care of their tongue will enjoy its benefits while those who don't will suffer its consequences. Therefore, one can use their tongue to either bring life or death. As the apostle James writes, "With it, we bless our God and Father, and with it, we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so" (James 3:9-10, NKJV).
The Power of the Tongue in Prayer
In the context of prayer, the tongue plays a crucial role. Very often, we may have promptings or a leading to pray for something, but we're not certain how to approach the issue. This is where the Holy Spirit, through the gift of speaking in tongues, helps us formulate our prayers according to the will of God.
The apostle Paul writes, "Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God" (Romans 8:26-27, NKJV).
When we pray in tongues, we are praying the perfect will of God as the Holy Spirit Himself intercedes on our behalf. This is a powerful tool that God has given us to communicate with Him and to align our prayers with His will. As Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 14:2, "For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit, he speaks mysteries" (NKJV).
The Benefits of Praying in the Spirit
Praying in the Spirit has many benefits. First, it builds up our faith. Jude writes, "But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit" (Jude 1:20, NKJV). When we pray in tongues, we are strengthening our faith and our relationship with God.
Second, praying in the Spirit helps us to pray according to God's will. As we yield ourselves to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to pray through us, we can be confident that our prayers are in line with God's perfect plan. This is especially important when we are facing difficult situations or when we don't know how to pray.
Third, praying in tongues is a powerful weapon against the enemy. Paul writes in Ephesians 6:18, "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints" (NKJV). When we pray in the Spirit, we are engaging in spiritual warfare and pushing back the forces of darkness.
Practical Application
To make the most of this powerful gift, it's important to set aside specific times for praying in the Spirit. This could be during your daily devotional time, while driving in the car, or even while doing household chores. The key is to make it a regular part of your prayer life.
As you pray in tongues, trust that the Holy Spirit is interceding on your behalf and that your prayers are making a difference, even if you don't understand the words you are speaking. Remember, "The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much" (James 5:16, NKJV).
So then, the tongue is a powerful tool that can be used for either good or evil. When we yield our tongues to the Holy Spirit and pray in the Spirit, we are tapping into a powerful source of blessing and intercession. As we make this a regular part of our prayer life, we will see serious results and experience the perfect will of God in our lives.
Confession
As I speak in Tongues, I decree and declare in the name of Jesus that I am praying the perfect will of God. I will see great results that will even shock my enemies.
