Speaking in Tongues
The Apostle Paul declares in 1 Corinthians 14:4 (Amplified Bible), "He who speaks in a [strange] tongue edifies and improves himself."
This powerful verse reveals an incredible truth - when you pray in tongues, you can expect to experience personal improvement and growth. As one respected minister aptly described it, speaking in tongues is "the self-improvement program of the Holy Spirit for you!"
This means there are no limits to how much you can develop and advance in your spiritual life. No person or circumstance can hinder your progress when you tap into this divine resource. The Bible assures us, "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us" (2 Corinthians 4:7). God has placed His invaluable treasure within us, His earthen vessels. However, having access to this treasure is of little benefit if we don't actively draw upon it.
This is where the gift of speaking in tongues comes in. When you pray in tongues, you unlock and release this treasure, enriching and enhancing your life in remarkable ways. As you spend time praying in the Spirit, you will begin to notice positive changes taking place within you. The Word of God affirms, "But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit" (Jude 1:20). Praying in tongues is a powerful tool for edifying and strengthening yourself in the faith.
One of the most significant benefits of speaking in tongues is the inner healing it brings. Many individuals have shared testimonies of experiencing deep emotional healing after spending extended periods praying in tongues. They often find themselves overcome with tears, even though they may not fully understand the reason. This is because as you pray in the Spirit, the Holy Spirit is gently healing the wounds and scars of your past. He is mending the broken places within your soul.
The Bible tells us, "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God" (Romans 8:16). As you pray in tongues, the Holy Spirit bears witness to your spirit, confirming your identity as a beloved child of God. He reassures you of your worth and value in Christ. This inner healing and affirmation are essential for your overall well-being and ability to effectively minister to others.
Remember, edification is the process of building up and strengthening. Only when you are healed and whole can you truly encourage and build up the body of Christ. The Apostle Paul exhorts, "Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing" (1 Thessalonians 5:11). As you experience healing and growth through praying in tongues, you will be better equipped to comfort and edify others in their faith journey.
Moreover, speaking in tongues is a means of spiritual refreshing and rejuvenation. Isaiah 28:11-12 states, "For with stammering lips and another tongue He will speak to this people, to whom He said, 'This is the rest with which You may cause the weary to rest,' and, 'This is the refreshing.'" When you pray in tongues, you enter into a place of spiritual rest and refreshing. It is a time when you can lay aside the cares and burdens of life and simply bask in the presence of God.
So, if you find yourself in need of inner healing, spiritual growth, or simply a refreshing touch from the Lord, why not embark on a journey of praying in tongues regularly? Set aside dedicated time each day to pray in the Spirit, trusting that God is working in you and through you. As you do, expect to see remarkable changes in your life. Expect to experience a greater measure of peace, joy, and wholeness.
Remember, "He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness" (2 Corinthians 9:10). As you sow the seed of praying in tongues, God will multiply the fruit in your life, bringing forth a bountiful harvest of spiritual blessings and inner healing. So, let us embrace this incredible gift and make it a regular part of our prayer life, knowing that it is a key to unlocking the treasures God has placed within us.
Confession
I decree and declare, in the name of Jesus Christ, as I pray in tongues, I will tap into the treasures that God has deposited inside of me. I receive my healing even as I am speaking in tongues. In Jesus' name. Amen
