Association
There is an old saying which I learnt at school: "Birds of a feather flock together" It's so true even today. I have often seen that people who seem to be bitter or offended with something or someone will always gather together with other folks who have the same frame of mind.
They refuse to believe any message or the prophetic word. They have sort of already decided that nothing can change their current situation.
The people we associate with have a massive influence on us. They affect our attitude, our mannerisms and even our future. What we read, what we watch, and the people with whom we associate have a deep impact on our future, and secular research proves this fact.
Proverbs 13:20, instructs us to "walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble."
The prophet Samuel prophesied to Saul saying, "Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man. (1 Samuel 10:6)
When they came there to the hill, there was a group of prophets to meet him; then the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them. And it happened, when all who knew him formerly saw that he indeed prophesied among the prophets, that the people said to one another, "What is this that has come upon the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?" (1 Samuel 10:10-11)
Saul was just an ordinary Benjamite, but when he came into contact with the group of prophets, something marvellous happened. The prophetic anointing came upon Saul, and he too began to prophesy like the other prophets. There is a key principle here. It is by association that the anointing is also transferred from one to another.
Acts 4: 13 says: "Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and saw that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marvelled. And they realised that they had been with Jesus."
Most of the disciples of Lord Jesus were fishermen, uneducated and untrained. However, for 3 ½ years they were associated with Him closely. This made the anointing that was on Lord Jesus rub off on them. They were greatly influenced by Him, so much so that they produced the very results Jesus produced.
Let us look at David's life:
And everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to him. So he became captain over them. And there were about four hundred men with him. (1 Samuel 22:2)
The people who gathered around David were people in debt, distress and discontented, but when they were associated with him, things began to change in their life. They went from being distressed and discontent to be giant killers. Again the key principle is, the anointing will increase by association, as we can see.
The right associations make a great difference. Joshua was connected to Moses. Timothy was connected to Paul and so on.
Many of today's great preachers and modern-day prophets are associated with a mentor who has the gifting they desire.
Sometimes it's not easy to physically be around someone who greatly moves in the anointing you desire. Then get close to his teachings – closely fellowship with the message he preaches. That's how you associate with them. That's how you connect with the anointing.
Lastly, a word of caution:
There are precious treasures and oil in the dwelling of the wise, but a self-confident and foolish man swallows it up and wastes it. (Proverbs 21:20)
The above scripture clearly tells us that precious treasure and oil (speaking of the anointing) is in the house of the wise. The reverse is also true.
If you go to the wrong place of fellowship or are connected with the wrong person, the anointing will dry up. What little you carry will be extinguished. Be connected to the place where God is moving.

Confession
I will walk with the wise and become even more wiser. In Jesus' name. Father, in the name of Jesus, I ask You for divine connections that will cause me to grow more in the anointing.
