And Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets and said to him, “Get yourself ready, take this flask of oil in your hand, and go to Ramoth Gilead. Now when you arrive at that place, look there for Jehu, the son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi and go in and make him rise up from among his associates, and take him to an inner room. (2 Kings 9:1-2)
Jehu is a very interesting character in the Bible. He succeeded where others failed. Elijah was a powerful man of God, and yet Jezebel caused great agony to Elijah. So you can imagine the wickedness of this evil queen. However, God used Jehu to destroy this evil queen Jezebel. So you can just imagine the anointing that Jehu carried.
Through this message, I want to bring out certain truths that will really help you in your walk with God.
#1 ...and go in and make him rise up from among his associates.”
Prophet Elisha tells one of his students to go and find Jehu and to go in and make him rise up from among his associates. The first step to walking into our destiny is to rise up from what we have become accustomed to - our comfort zone.
God wants to use us to show His Glory to this generation, but before that, we need to rise up from the level that we are currently on. There is a need to disconnect ourselves from things that distract us. Even though Jehu did not understand fully what was going on obeyed and rose from among his associates. I believe what separates us is not our call but our response to the call.
#2 “and take him to an inner room.”
When we rise up from familiarity and lukewarmness, we then have an open invitation to walk into the inner chamber of God. The inner chamber represents the place where not all people dwell in. This place is the very heart of God.
The inner room is the place that is far from distractions. Lord Jesus spoke of this inner room experience, saying, “When you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. (Matthew 6:6)
In the Old Testament, only the high priest was allowed to enter the inner chamber of God’s presence, and “… only once a year, and never without blood…’ [Hebrews 9:7]
The New Testament tells us that those who are in Christ have the unprecedented privilege to “… boldly enter into God’s presence, the inner sanctuary, where Lord Jesus has already entered on our behalf.’ [Hebrews 6:19-20] The inner chamber door is unlocked for all those who love Jesus!
The Lord wants you to have access to His heart. When you have access to the inner chamber of God, He will pour on you a new anointing. He will call you by a new name! (Revelation 2:17, Isaiah 62:2)
#3 “Then take the flask of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord: “I have anointed you king over Israel.”
Notice, the inner chamber is where the oil came upon the head of Jehu. The inner room is where a fresh anointing will be poured upon you. Are you feeling dry? Then get into the inner room; a fresh anointing awaits you.
The inner room is the place where you will clearly hear the voice of God. The prophetic is birthed in this place. Jehu heard the prophecy in the inner room.
Jehu’s calling was confirmed in the inner room. This was where Jehu knew that he was going to be the king of Israel. Maybe you have been battling depression and rejection etc. Maybe you had a very low self-image of yourself. You need to get into the inner room. Your calling will be confirmed, and you will soar on the wings of the eagle.
