Chapter 52

Book / 22 / 114 chapter - 52
2463
For thus says the Lord: “You have sold yourselves for nothing, and you shall be redeemed without money.” (Isaiah 52:3)

Now this doesn’t mean that it doesn’t cost anything. The end of Isaiah 52 begins to describe the great cost of redemption, a cost paid by none other than Lord Jesus Christ. .

How beautiful upon the mountains
Are the feet of him who brings good news,
Who proclaims peace, who brings glad tidings of good things,
Who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!” (Isaiah 52:7)

Prophet Isaiah prophesies of the beautiful feet of those who bring the Gospel – the good news.

Be clean, You who bear the vessels of the Lord. (Isaiah 52:11)
is a call to purity, for those to serve the LORD.

Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. (2 Timothy 2:21)

Confession for Travelling
But you will not leave in haste or go in flight;
for the Lord will go before you, the God of Israel will be your rear guard. (Isaiah 52:12)

Behold, My Servant shall deal prudently;
He shall be exalted and extolled and be very high. (Isaiah 52:13)

This passage, through the end of Isaiah 53, has in focus the Servant of the LORD. This is the Servant previously spoken of in Isaiah 42:1, and Isaiah 49:3 and 6.

The Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8:24 asked a question about Isaiah 52:13 through 53:12: Of whom does the prophet say this, of himself or of some other man? This question is still asked today, and the answer is extremely important.

Throughout the book of Isaiah, many have been called servants of the LORD in one way or another. This includes Isaiah himself (Isaiah 20:3), Eliakim (Isaiah 22:20), David (Isaiah 37:35), Israel (Isaiah 41:8-9). However, there is no doubt that the phrase is also used as a specific title for the Messiah - Lord Jesus Christ.

Just as many were astonished at you,
So His visage was marred more than any man,
And His form more than the sons of men; (Isaiah 52:14)

There have been many occasions when people who have cancer on the face have attended my service. At one time a man came whose chin was eaten by cancer came for prayer. Another time a man came whose nose was eaten by cancer.

As sad as this sounds, scripture still says that the face of Jesus was marred more than any man. You can imagine the extent to which His face was marred. The original Hebrew language, means that Jesus didn’t even look human.

People said that well-known actor and director Mel Gibson was too graphic in his portrayal of Jesus’ beating and crucifixion in the movie The Passion of the Christ. However, Mel Gibson himself admits that he had to tone those scenes down significantly from what the scriptures describe because nobody would have ever viewed them.
