4 “I will give children to be their princes,
And babes shall rule over them.
5 The people will be oppressed, (Isaiah 3:4-5)
One significant consequence of deviating from the Lord's guidance is the emergence of weak leaders, who can be likened to children and babies in their decision-making abilities. These inexperienced and ineffective leaders may lack the wisdom, maturity, and moral compass necessary to govern with righteousness and justice, thus exacerbating societal issues and driving the people further away from the divine path.
For Jerusalem stumbled, And Judah is fallen, Because their tongue and their doings Are against the LORD, To provoke the eyes of His glory. (Isaiah 3:8)
One of the contributing factors to the Fall of Jerusalem was the people's misuse of their tongue against the Lord, rather than using it in His service. It is often easier to recognise how our actions may offend God, but we should not overlook the impact of our words, as they can also provoke His divine presence. We are called to glorify God not only through our deeds but also through our words, ensuring that our speech reflects our faith and values.
Lord Jesus emphasised the importance of being mindful of our words, as stated in Matthew 12:36-37. He warned that individuals will be held accountable for every idle word they speak and that their words will determine their justification or condemnation in the day of judgment. This highlights the crucial role our speech plays in our spiritual journey and relationship with God.
In order to maintain a strong connection with the Lord, we must strive to align both our actions and words with His Word. This entails using our tongues to express love, compassion, and truth rather than allowing them to become a source of negativity or harm. By cultivating mindful speech that upholds the values of our faith, we can contribute to a more harmonious world and bring ourselves closer to Him.
For they have brought evil upon themselves. (Isaiah 3:9)
God did not need to take extraordinary or unique measures to execute judgment upon them. Instead, by simply allowing them to follow their own misguided paths and actions, they inevitably invited calamity upon themselves. This highlights the importance of adhering to divine guidance and the consequences that can result from straying away from the righteous path set forth by the Lord.
O My people! Those who lead you cause you to err, And destroy the way of your paths." (Isaiah 3:12)
Isaiah 3:12 highlights two significant dangers of poor leadership:
1. Misguidance:
Ineffective leaders can lead people astray, causing them to deviate from the right path, and potentially resulting in detrimental consequences for the followers.
2. Destruction of the proper path:
Such leaders not only mislead their followers but also actively destroy the correct course, making it increasingly difficult for people to find their way back to the righteous path and regain a strong connection with the divine.
