from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun; (Numbers 13:8)
And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun, Joshua. (Numbers 13:16)
Joshua was from the tribe of Ephraim
God told the people to check out the land
Why did the LORD tell them to check out the land?
Then Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said to them, "Go up this way into the South, and go up to the mountains, "and see what the land is like: whether the people who dwell in it are strong or weak, few or many; "whether the land they dwell in is good or bad; whether the cities they inhabit are like camps or strongholds; "whether the land is rich or poor; and whether there are forests there or not. Be of good courage. And bring some of the fruit of the land." Now the time was the season of the first ripe grapes. (Numbers 13:17-20)
Their report would consist of 7 things
1. whether the people who dwell in it are strong or weak
2. few or many
3. whether the land they dwell in is good or bad;
4. whether the cities they inhabit are like camps or strongholds
5. whether the land is rich or poor
6. whether there are forests there or not
7. bring some of the fruit of the land
Notice one of the things that was essential for the report was the ‘fruit of the land’.
All said and done – fruit matters.
A land is known by its fruit
A person is known by its fruit. Lord Jesus, Himself said, “Therefore by their fruits, you will know them.” (Matthew 7:20)
But the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we." (Numbers 13:31)
If you keep on seeing through your natural eyes you are bound to get discouraged. However, if you see through your spiritual eyes, you will laugh at the enemy. Victory and defeat in the spiritual realm is based on your spiritual eyes and ears open
You see there are many people who fast and still they are not seeing the results that they are supposed to see. Fasting and prayer basically sharpens your spirit. It does not change God but changes you to receive instructions from God that will take you from the path of death onto the path of life.
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:17-18)
