Teacher, they said, This woman has been caught in the very act of adultery. (John 8:4)
Very interestingly, they brought the woman but they did not bring the man. I suspect the man along with the woman was`one of their own - a Pharisee.
Now Moses in the Law commanded us that such [women—offenders] shall be stoned to death. But what do You say [to do with her—what is Your sentence]? (John 8:5)
They misquoted the law of Moses, leaving a section aside to benefit the man. The law said that both were to be stoned - the man and the woman.
Then He bent down and went on writing on the ground with His finger. (John 8:8)
Jesus was and is the word. He was doing what He was - writing
This was a trap because if Jesus said, “Stone her,” they would instigate the people saying, “So much for His teachings about God’s love and being sent to the world not to condemn, but to save.” But if He said, “Don’t stone her,” then they would accuse Him of breaking the law of Moses.
So what did Jesus do? He wrote on the ground with His finger. He did so not because He could not answer. I believe He did this to demonstrate that He was the one who wrote the Ten Commandments on two tablets of stone with His finger during Moses’ time. (Exodus 31:18)
Then, Jesus said, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” (John 8:7) And one by one, those who heard this walked away, being convicted by their conscience.
Prayer: Father, help me to always do the things that please You. (John 8:29)
I tell the things which I have seen and learned at My Father’s side, and your actions also reflect what you have heard and learned from your father. (John 8:38)
There are two principles that stand out of this scripture:
1.Your speech reflects who your father is (both spiritual and physical)
2.Your actions also reflect who your father is (both spiritual and physical)
And you will know the Truth, and the Truth (that you know) will set you free. (John 8:32)
The secret to personal change is not willpower. The secret is to know (experientially) the truth. Truth that has become experience has the power to set you free
You are doing the works of your [own] father. They said to Him, We are not illegitimate children and born out of fornication; we have one Father, even God. (John 8:41)
This was an indictment against the virgin birth of our Lord Jesus.
