Since all this is true, we ought to pay much closer attention than ever to the truths that we have heard, lest in any way we drift past [them] and slip away. (Hebrews 2:1)
The most dangerous thing about drifting is that it is so subtle and not intentional. I don’t know of any Christian who wakes up one fine morning and decides, “I am not going to follow Lord Jesus anymore.” However, what really happens is, there is a gradual pulling away from prayer, the word, intercession. On the surface, it may have all the valid reasons but the truth deep down is now there is a growing love for the world over Christ. And one day, you suddenly see for yourself how far you have drifted away from the father’s house.
How do we stop ourselves from drifting?
By paying closer attention to the truth of God’s word – that’s our reference point.
For if the message given through angels [the Law spoken by them to Moses] was authentic and proved sure, and every violation and disobedience received an appropriate (just and adequate) penalty (Hebrews 2:2)
It was commonly acknowledged by the Jews in the 1st century that the Law of God was given to Moses by angels — and not directly by God Himself. Stephen, the first martyr, rebuked the Jews for going against the Law saying, “Who have received the Law by the disposition of angels and have not kept it” (Acts 7:53).
God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will? (Hebrews 2:4)
The purpose of miracles and healings is God bearing witness to His Word.
It is God endorsing His message.
How to move in the supernatural power of God?
To see the miraculous, we must speak His words and not our words. We must preach His and not ours. God confirms His word and not ours. So prepare by asking the Lord for His Word.
You have made him a little lower than the angels;
You have crowned him with glory and honor,
And set him over the works of Your hands.
You have put all things in subjection under his feet.” (Hebrews 2:7-8)
If God made man in His own image, the man should not be in any way lower than angels! Angels were not made in the image of God. They were just created by Him for a purpose; one of the purposes is to minister to the saints. How then is man lower than angels?
Lord Jesus said, “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant, does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.” (John 15:15)
After man was redeemed, he has been elevated to be friends with Jesus and even co-heirs, and also to be seated in heavenly places with Him.
We know that Jesus who is God Himself came down to earth in the form of man. However, Hebrews 2:9 clearly explains that Jesus was also made lower than the angels temporarily. Why? For the purpose of death!
Angels are spirit beings and spirits don’t die. They are immortal beings, living from everlasting to everlasting. So for the purpose of death, man was made lower than angels. Man must die before he can be transformed into an immortal being, except in the case of rapture where the living who are in Christ are changed to immortality without passing through death.
