Power of the Spoken Word

The Bible says in Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Then it goes on to say, “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness covered the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering upon the face of the waters” (verse 2).

The situation described in Genesis 1:1–2 was chaos personified.Your life, your home, and your marriage could be in a chaotic situation even as you read this. The question deep within you cries, “How can I come out of this situation? Is there ever going to be an end to my woes?”

The good news is this we need to look at the Word for solutions.

The Turning Point

Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light (Genesis 1:3).

Notice this carefully God spoke, and it came into being.I want to draw your attention to a powerful principle here.The natural man speaks what he can see, hear, and feel. He expresses everything based on his circumstances. Then, according to the law of sowing and reaping, the more he speaks about what he sees and feels, the more he receives of that.

However, the spiritual man operates differently.

He gets the Word of God into his spirit, and then releases it out of his mouth. This spoken Word carries creative power the same power that created the universe, healed the sick, and raised the dead.The spoken Word of God has the power to change our circumstances and recreate our chaotic worlds.

The Enemy’s Strategy

However, we must understand something very important.

The devil is fully aware of this principle.

He will do everything he can to hinder you by getting you to speak what you see and feel, instead of what God says.And at this point, many begin to act out their feelings instead of holding onto the promises of God.The way we counter this is by soaking ourselves in the Word of God.

The Lord Jesus said while speaking to the Pharisees in Matthew 12:34–35:

“Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.”

Consistency is the Key

Speaking the Word of God is not a new fad. Its effectiveness lies in our consistency.As mature Christians, we must not just speak God’s promises in the morning, and then later in the day when pressure hits start speaking what we feel.Instead, we must put a constant guard over our mouth.We must speak only what God says about the situation consistently.

Minute by minute.
Hour by hour.
Day by day.

This is how chaos is turned into order.

This is how darkness gives way to light.

This is how your world is recreated by the power of God’s spoken Word.
