A Different Jesus, Different Spirit, and Another Gospel

“For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it!” (2 Corinthians 11:4)

Notice that in the above Scripture, we are warned about being led astray to follow:

Another Jesus
A Different Spirit
Another Gospel

The Danger of Exotic Teachings

Today, there are certain people who do not even attend church services anymore because they reportedly cannot find anyone around to tickle their ears with exotic teachings. So instead, they hunt YouTube for teachings that will supposedly take them “deeper.” This is dangerous!!

Many people today are no longer satisfied with the simplicity of the Gospel. They are constantly looking for some “new revelation,” some hidden mystery, or some secret teaching that nobody else has discovered before. But the Gospel does not need improvement. Truth does not become deeper just because it becomes stranger.

Recently, a pastor called me up and tearfully told me that many people had left his church after attending one preacher’s seminar held quietly in some of his members’ homes. That preacher had told them that their pastor was teaching all the wrong things and that he alone had the “true revelation.” Sadly, this spirit is becoming more common today.

Another Jesus

New false doctrines, new false revelations, and new gospels are springing up almost daily. And it is going to get much worse. The Bible clearly warns that in the last days, strange doctrines will arise — introducing another Jesus, another spirit, and another gospel! (2 Corinthians 11:4)

Even today, there is an organization that teaches that Jesus Christ is Michael the Archangel — that is preaching another Jesus.

The Bible clearly reveals Jesus Christ as the eternal Son of God, not a created being or merely an exalted angelic figure. The moment the identity of Christ is distorted, the foundation of the Gospel itself is affected.

Another Gospel

Another organization, which has millions of followers, teaches that Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross was not sufficient to save us completely from all our sins, and therefore a person must still go through “Purgatory” after death to make further atonement and purification — that is another gospel.

The term “another gospel” means to pervert, or to twist something around. Those who pervert the Gospel destroy it by adding human works, traditions, or additions that distort the nature of the person and the finished work of Christ.

A Different Spirit

Again, there is an organization that teaches that the Holy Spirit is merely an invisible “force” of Almighty God and not a divine person — that is a different spirit.

Today, it is also becoming common to hear people say, “The Spirit led me to do this,” or “The Spirit told me to believe that.” Much confusion today is simply the result of people listening to their own human spirit rather than submitting themselves to the Spirit-inspired Word of God.

The Holy Spirit will never contradict the Scriptures He inspired in the first place. If what you are hearing does not align with the Word of God, then you are listening to a different spirit.
