Growing in Grace

"But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever. Amen."  2 Peter 3:18

Grace is one of the most beautiful gifts God has given us, yet it is also one of the most misunderstood. Some imagine that because God is gracious, sin no longer matters. They treat grace as permission to live however they please. Scripture firmly rejects that idea.
Apostle Paul asks, "Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?" (Romans 6:1).

His answer is unmistakable. Grace was never intended to excuse sin; it was given to rescue us from it. God's desire is not merely to forgive us but to transform us into people who reflect His holiness.

What Does It Mean to Grow in Grace?
Peter's command is clear: "Grow in grace." This does not mean that God gradually gives us more grace as though His supply were limited. Rather, it means growing in our understanding of all that Christ has accomplished for us and allowing that truth to shape the way we live.

As we deepen our knowledge of God's Word, our appreciation of His grace also deepens. We begin to see more clearly the riches of our salvation, the privilege of knowing Christ, and the power He provides to live a life that pleases Him.

Grace Produces Spiritual Growth
Growing in grace never leads to spiritual laziness. On the contrary, grace stirs within us a greater hunger for God. It creates a love for His Word, a passion for prayer, and a desire to walk in righteousness.

The early church understood this well. They devoted themselves to prayer and the ministry of the Word (Acts 6:4). These were not burdensome duties but the means through which God's grace continued to strengthen and mature them.

Perhaps you find yourself struggling with obedience. Maybe you are battling hidden sins or have lost your desire for prayer and Scripture. If so, do not rely on your own strength. God's grace is sufficient for every weakness.

The Christian life was never meant to be lived by human effort alone. The same grace that saved you is the grace that sustains you, strengthens you, and enables you to grow. As you depend upon the Lord daily, the Holy Spirit continues His work of transforming you into the likeness of Christ.

A Daily Decision
Spiritual maturity does not happen by accident. It is the result of continually responding to God's grace. Every day we must choose to draw near to Him, to remain teachable, and to allow His Word to shape our hearts.

The more we know Christ, the more we become like Him. His grace becomes increasingly evident in our thoughts, our words, and our actions.

Today, make a fresh commitment to be a student of God's Word and a lover of prayer. As you do, you will discover that His grace is more than enough to strengthen, sustain, and establish you in every season of life. Shalom!

Prayer
Father, thank You for your grace. I am a grateful recipient of this grace. I acknowledge I have no power on my own. I ask that Your grace comes for me, oh Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
