5 Benefits of Reading God’s Word

Word of God
Over the years, I have seen people neglect the word of God. Some go on for days and weeks without even reading the word of God. Somehow, they are convinced that listening to a sermon on Sunday morning is enough.
Even Christians who have been in church for years rarely study God’s word systematically. And yet, there are many benefits to reading the word of God. May the Holy Spirit use this to birth in you a hunger and thirst for His Word.
Please read the following very carefully. These were God’s instructions for a King.
“Also it shall be, when he (the king) sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for himself a copy of this law in a book, from the one before the priests, the Levites.
And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God and be careful to observe all the words of this law and these statutes, that his heart may not be lifted above his brethren, that he may not turn aside from the commandment to the right hand or to the left, and that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his children in the midst of Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:18-20)
A king was supposed to read the word of God daily – as long as he lived on this earth. This equipped the king in many ways.
1. He would learn to walk in the fear of the Lord
2. It would keep him from pride
3. It would keep him from straying from the paths of God
4. It assured him of long life for himself and his sons
5. His leadership would be established
The Bible says through His perfect sacrifice; Lord Jesus has made us kings and priests to His God and Father (Revelation 1:6). Therefore, you and I are kings and priests.
As priests, we are called to offer sacrifices of praise and intercession before the Father. As kings, we are to exercise our authority by healing the sick and casting out demons for the sake of the gospel. To effectively fulfil this call of God, we need to prepare ourselves with the word of God just like the Lord told the kings in Deuteronomy 17:18-20
God is committed to honouring and blessing those who love and respect His precious Word. Right from Genesis to Revelation, God reveals His mind and heart to us. Everything else will fade away, “but the word of our God stands forever” (Isaiah 40:8). When we believe and obey His Word, our lives will shine with His Glory.
