How to Develop the Fruit of the Spirit -1

Gifts of the Holy Spirit are "received" whereas His fruits are to be "cultivated." It is by the fruit of the Spirit we overcome the desires of our sinful nature.

Developing the fruit of the Spirit comes from a relationship with the Lord. Forcing the fruit of the Spirit in our lives will be merely a work of the flesh and will be a frustrating experience.

The fruit of the Spirit can only be produced by the Spirit when we abide in Christ. Meditate on the following verses carefully (Read them as many times as you can)

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine; you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered. (John 15:4-6)

Developing the fruit of the Spirit becomes a natural process when we yield to the Lord. By spending time and developing a relationship with Him, appreciating how much He loves us, and understanding who He is and who He wants to be in us, we begin to yield to Jesus. That process allows us to develop oneness with Him that results in us producing the fruit of the Spirit.

He who walks with wise men will be wise,

But the companion of fools will be destroyed. (Proverbs 13:20 NKJV)

Walk with the wise and become wise;

associate with fools and get in trouble. (Proverbs 13:20 NLT)

The point I am trying to make is, we become like those whom we hang out with.

Fellowshipping daily with the Holy Spirit is essential to bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Something must take root before it can bear fruit. Isaiah 37:31 says, “shall take root downward and bear fruit upward.”
