As Christians, we need to be careful how we live. People will be watching us wherever we go. The moment we called ourselves followers of Christ, we would be scrutinized even more by the society around us. Therefore, we must strive to do our best so that our Lord is represented with excellence through us.
Scripture emphatically describes us as "Ambassadors of Christ" (2 Corinthians 5:20). As an ambassador, you and I are appointed to represent the Kingdom of God wherever we go. As an ambassador, when we speak, we speak on behalf of our King. When we act, we act on behalf of our King.
There are certain marks of a true ambassador of Christ.
1.He must be a Citizen of Heaven
We come to this citizenship not by birth but by grace. Once strangers to the covenants of promise and without God in the world, in Christ, we become fellow "citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God" (Ephesians 2:19). A true ambassador of Christ must be "in Christ" and "a new creation" (2 Corinthians 5:17)
2.He must be a Person of Character
2 Corinthians 5:17 clearly mentions: "the old has gone, the new has come" Our character can make or break our mission, and so as ambassadors of Christ, it is highly imperative that we develop godly character.
Developing and walking in the character of Christ is not a one-time event, it is a process that needs to be worked upon daily. One of the practical ways to develop a godly character is to have a consistent devotional life.
Lord Jesus said in John 15:5 "If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit" There are three types of fruit mentioned in the New Testament:
1.The fruit of good works (Colossians 1:10)
2.The fruit of souls won to Christ (John 4:35-36) and
3.The fruit of the Spirit — "Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control" (Galatians 5:22-23).
All these fruit can be manifested by doing one thing – having a consistent devotional life.
3.He must be in Constant Contact with the Throne.
Just as an ambassador is always in constant touch with the country he represents. So also, a true ambassador of Christ needs to be in constant contact with the Throne of God even as he goes about his routine activities.
Prayer
Father, thank You for giving me authority as Your ambassador. Help me represent You well everywhere I go. In Jesus' name, Amen.
