Spiritual Strength
One of the effects of the pandemic is that many people are feeling worn out and down. Outwardly everything looks fine, but inwardly they are torn down and depressed. Their faith is being tested like never before through all that has taken place in their personal lives or the events that are happening around them.
I have had people write to me saying, “I don't feel like praying anymore, I just don’t feel like reading the word, all I do is just sleep or watch something endlessly on television.”
Some people have confessed to taking three to four sleeping pills at one time. Another young girl wrote to me saying, “Pastor, I am just tanking on alcohol, and I hate myself for doing this, but I really don’t know why I am doing this. I know this doesn't seem right. Please help me.”
Before I move on, I want to reiterate that these people whom I just mentioned are not bad people, but somewhere down the line, they have lost their inward spiritual strength; they have lost their inner power; their spirit man has become very weak, and this is why they are doing the things even when they know that it is not right.
The good news is that you can build your spiritual strength so that you can do all that God has called you to do on this earth despite the opposition, despite the persecution, despite the wind blowing against your face.
What is the need to build spiritual strength?
As I mentioned earlier, the need to build spiritual strength is so that you can do God's will in the face of anything.
The strong spirit of a man sustains him in bodily pain or trouble, but a weak and broken spirit who can raise up or bear? (Proverbs 18:14 Amplified)
I recently read a report that said, “A supermodel threw herself out of her ninth-floor balcony.” People were seen commenting, this bold, beautiful, successful woman, what was the need for her to do this. What was the need for her to take such a drastic step?
A healthy spirit conquers adversity,
but what can you do when the spirit is crushed? (Proverbs 18:14 MSG)
In proverbs 18:14, We will read the message translation now, it says a healthy spirit conquers adversity, but what can you do when the spirit is crushed when the spirit is weak. What can you do?
Today I want to answer the question: “What can you do to renew your spiritual strength?
What is a strong spirit?
A strong spirit is confident, established, unmovable, and prepared for anything. It is resilient in the face of adversity, full of joy and peace—and it never gives up. A strong spirit will get you through anything—physical attacks, financial setbacks, relational problems, career setbacks, and whatever else the enemy throws at you.
A strong spirit exhibits the fruit of the spirit. A sign of a strong spirit is love, joy, peace. (Galatians 5:22-23). A strong spirit never gives up.
There was a man of God called Job in the Bible. He suffered many setbacks - financial, health, relational etc. What was it that made him endure and come out strong in the end? It was a strong spirit. It was a strong inner strength.
In Job 32:8, he mentions, “But there is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding.” It was this understanding of the spirit man; it was this understanding of the inner spiritual strength that made Job stand in the face of adversity.
The good news is that you can build up your spirit to a place where sickness can’t discourage it, discouragement itself cannot bend it, fear can’t stop it, bad news can’t move it and adversity can’t affect it. You can build your spirit to this level.
Confession
1. Father God, this day I release words of faith into the earth, spiritual seed that will bear both spiritual and natural fruit in my life. In the name of Jesus.
2. I will not let my soul be crushed because I have placed my hope and trust in the LORD God of Heaven and Earth. I am only above and not beneath. I am not the tail, but rather the head. I am blessed coming in and blessed going out. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
