This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. (Joshua 1:8)
God told Joshua…." and then you will have good success." (Joshua 1:8)
What is good success?
Good success is sustained success. You are not a flash in the pan. You are not a shooting star. A shooting star only shines for one night. I have seen people rise in the secular world and even in the Kingdom of God. They achieved some degree of success, but they did not last long because they lacked character. Someone rightly said, "Your gifting can take you there, but it is your character that keeps you there."
When Jacob was on his deathbed, he called all his sons and prophesied to them through the Spirit of God in the following manner:
"Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, the first sign of my strength, excelling in honour, excelling in power. Turbulent as the waters, you will no longer excel, for you went up onto your father's bed, onto my couch and defiled it. (Genesis 49:1-4)
Reuben had everything going for him. As a firstborn son, he would receive a double portion of the inheritance, but sadly this did not happen. Reuben committed adultery with one of Jacob's wives. He had no control over his emotions. He had the gifting, the talent, the abilities, but sadly he did not have the character to match.
God looks for stable character in those who will lead His people
If you want to be a person who wants to leave a lasting impact for years, then you need to work on character. If you just want to be a flash in the pan, it's fine. Your gifting will make that flash happen, and then you will be forgotten - forever.
Do you know that the tribe of Reuben never did excel? No prophet, no judge, or no king came from the tribe of Reuben. Reuben is a perfect example of how the first can be the last (Matthew 19:30).

Confession
As a man thinks in his heart, so is he; therefore, I confess all of my thoughts are positive. I will not meditate on negative things. I will not speak negative things. Through Lord Jesus Christ, I am dead to sin and alive unto righteousness. (Based on: Proverbs 23:7, Ephesians 4;29 Romans 6:11)
