Slaying the Giant of Procrastination

Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep.
So shall your poverty come as a robber, and your want as an armed man. (Proverbs 24:33-34)

Notice there are 3 'littles' in the above verses of scripture
On the surface, a little does not seem much, and yet it is by indulging in the 'littles' the day runs out and the time for real work is over. The field is overgrown with thorns, and the man experiences the results of his indulgence – poverty. Someone said, "It is by little procrastinations that men ruin their souls."

Lot was clearly told by the angels that came to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah that he needed to move out quickly to escape the oncoming judgment. Instead of heeding them, he lingered. He kept on delaying matters. It was the mercy of God that the angels literally took him, his wife and his daughters by the hand and brought them out safely. (See Genesis 19:15-16)

We often think that when we procrastinate, we are only putting off a decision. Actually, the root reason behind procrastination is carelessness and laziness. When we procrastinate, it's not because we don't have access to enough information to make a decision. Often, we already know what to do. We simply don't feel like doing it for one reason or another.

By regularly indulging in procrastination, it becomes a habit and eventually part of your character.

When it comes to making a decision, they often wait until it's too late, hoping that somehow things will fall in place on their own. In reality, this never happens.

What such don't realize is that in not making a decision, they are making a decision. Their failure to act usually has negative consequences over the long term.

The Bible warns us about the danger of procrastination: "Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts and delay in obeying His voice as the children of Israel did in the wilderness" (Hebrews 3:15)

satan's favourite word is "tomorrow." If he can get someone to keep putting off thinking about his salvation until tomorrow, he has succeeded. On the other hand, the word 'today' is very dear to the heart of God.

A Roman official named Felix whose story we find in Acts 24:22–27. Felix, and his wife, Drusilla, missed the opportunity for salvation because of procrastination.

Felix replied to Apostle Paul, saying, "Go away for now," he replied. "When it is more convenient, I'll call for you again." (Acts 24:25 NLT)

'Tomorrow' is the most dangerous word because it has robbed many of their dreams. It has robbed students of their career opportunities and fathers and mothers of their relationships with their children.

James also tells us that if we don't begin to act on what we learn from God's Word, we only deceive ourselves. (James 1:22) Decide to instantly obey the Word. Don't delay (procrastinate)

Father, in the name of Jesus, I submit myself to you, and I take up my authority in the Name of Jesus Christ. I command the spirit of procrastination and confusion to leave my life now.
