Take Away the Accursed Thing

And you, by all means, abstain from the accursed things, lest you become accursed when you take of the accursed things, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it. (Joshua 6:18)

A person once approached me and shared a bizarre incident. He had moved into a new house, but strange supernatural manifestations were occurring. At times he and his wife had felt a strange, somewhat evil presence coming from a certain room. On several occasions, both of them saw a shadowy figure, like a vapour, moving swiftly across the floor in this same room. Even their daughter and son voiced the same concern, and this was when they brought the matter to me for prayer. 

He immediately told me about a wooden antique, several hundred years old, that he had purchased when they had gone on a trip abroad. He purchased it because of its beauty and age. I explained to him how certain tribes used this antique in Africa in demonic rituals, which was what attracted evil spirits.

The devil always tries to find a hole in homes so he can penetrate and gain access. You can imagine buying an artwork innocently; it later turned out to be a hook in the neck. Imagine renting an apartment, and it starts to steal the peace in your home. These are all schemes of the devil. Are you in a similar situation where your home is under some demonic attacks, and you can't seem to place your finger on the cause? Or have you lost the peace in your home, and you pick faults at your wife? 

Jesus told a similar parable in Matthew 13:24-30. The Bible says, "Another parable He put forth to them, saying: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. So the servants of the owner came and said to him, 'Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?' He said to them, 'An enemy has done this.' The servants said to him, 'Do you want us then to go and gather them up?' 29 But he said, 'No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest, I will say to the reapers, "First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn."

The servants actually planted good seeds, but something went wrong. An enemy came to corrupt the seed. Jesus said emphatically, "An enemy has done this." An enemy has planted an accursed thing in your home. An enemy has infiltrated your home with strange spirits different from the Spirit of God. Yes, you purchased the house innocently, and no doubt you applied for the job with the purest of intentions, but an enemy is behind the struggles. 

Here is Jesus's solution, we will have to take away the works of the enemy and burn it up. What has God shown you as the accursed thing in your marriage? What has God pointed to you as the accursed thing in your family? It's time to take it away, bind it and burn it. You can't afford to watch the devil steal your peace and happiness. It's time to pick up a fight in the Spirit so the accursed thing can leave your home. What you don't want, you don't watch.

Father, in the name of Jesus, I thank you for the liberation that you are bringing to my home. Thank you for your grace and mercy in my family. I pray that you open our eyes to see the accursed thing the devil is using to steal our joy and torment us. I decree that my family is free indeed. In Jesus' name. Amen.
