"I said, "You are gods, And all of you are children of the Most High."(Psalm 82:6)
The second major hindrance was a race of giants, large men who were eight feet tall to as high as thirteen feet tall (1 Samuel 17:4). These giants were real and frightening. Josephus, the Jewish historian, wrote about the giants.
Giants existed before and after the flood of Noah. In Noah's time, the race of giants caused the imagination of men to be evil continually. (See Genesis 6:1–5.) The giants in the Promised Land created fear because they impacted the imagination, creating fear. When ten of the twelve spies brought back a report to Moses, they all agreed the land was blessed, but ten said the giants were so large that the Hebrews would look like grasshoppers beside them. The Bible says in Numbers 13:33, "There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight."
The grasshopper image was in their imagination—they had seen themselves as small and insignificant. Two men, Joshua and Caleb, had another spirit (Numbers 14:24), and forty years later, Caleb, at age eighty-five, ran three giants off a mountain in Hebron. The Bible says in Joshua 15:13-14, "Now to Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a share among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the Lord to Joshua, namely, Kirjath Arba, which is Hebron (Arba was the father of Anak). Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak from there: Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak."
What image have you formed in your mind that makes you think you are not able to advance in a course? What record have you read in your pursuit of those who have gone ahead that makes you think you can't possibly beat such a record? What achievement have you desired that looks impossible? I have good news for you, it is possible. The giants not withstanding, you would surely come out victorious. I know this for sure because the greatest One lives in you. You are an embodiment of the trinity.
You have unlimited power and capacity to subdue any opposition that rises against you. You have the spiritual stamina to conquer and outrun the giants on your path. But you need to see it for yourself.
The Bible says about Moses in Exodus 7:1, "So the Lord said to Moses: "See, I have made you as God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet." This is God showing Moses the stuff he was made of. Moses probably saw himself as a weak shepherd, a convict and a fugitive. What could someone who absconded from a country probably become in life, more so in the same nation where he was declared wanted? Yet, God said to him, "I have made you a god over Pharoah."
The name Pharoah used to dread Moses. He would run and hide at the mention of that name because a death sentence was hanging on his head. Pharoah was like a giant that wouldn't let Moses operate in the reality of His destiny. But God said, "you can outrun this mountain." You are well able to run with the giants and overcome.
David also stood before Goliath, who was a giant personified and also a warrior from his youth. Yet, he didn't panic; rather, he spoke God's word, and he eventually slew the giant. Friend, don't mind the giants on your path; God is with you; just go ahead. The same God that helped Caleb to overcome the giant and dispossess them of their land, He will empower you to take over.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, I thank you for the understanding of your word to me today. I pray that you strengthen me to have the right image in my mind. I shall no longer be a victim in the race of life. In Jesus' name. Amen.
