“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:18-19)
It's said that destiny is revealed in seasons of confrontation rather than seasons of comfort. When we look back at Biblical history, we find an echoing truth to this statement. Moses confronted Pharaoh, David faced Goliath, and Lord Jesus encountered the wrath of hell head-on. Each moment of confrontation revealed a greater plan and purpose for their lives, marking a divine destiny.
But let us be mindful that before we can truly embrace what lies ahead, we must come to terms with our past. It's not unusual to be haunted by past mistakes, failures, or missed opportunities. And, many times, we become our own worst critics, punishing ourselves for what we perceive as past weaknesses. Sometimes, we just end up blaming others. The good news is God doesn’t see us through the lens of our past.
In Philippians 3:13-14, Apostle Paul writes, “Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
When we are trapped in the memories of our yesterdays, it becomes a hindrance to perceiving the new thing God is trying to do in our lives. It becomes hard to see our real identity, the one crafted in the image of God. This is not the vision God wants us to carry. He wants us to be free from the shackles of shame to step into a future painted with His grace and mercy.
When Jesus encountered the woman caught in adultery in John 8, He did not condemn her, even though the Law said she should be stoned. Instead, He told her, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on, sin no more.” Jesus offered her grace, a chance for a new beginning. It was a profound example of not allowing one's past to bring shame to their future.
Now, you might be thinking, 'That’s all well and good, but how do I let go?' It's a valid question, and the answer, while simple, demands surrender and trust.
1 Peter 5:7 encourages us to "Cast all your anxieties on Him because He cares for you.” Start by laying your past at His feet. God loves you with an everlasting love. His grace is sufficient to cover all our sins, mistakes, and shortcomings. Trust in His mercies, which are new every morning.
As you move forward, remember that God’s plan for your life is not to harm you but to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). He’s preparing you for a destiny filled with His blessings, and every season of confrontation is merely shaping you, moulding you, and refining you for that divine calling.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, help me release my past, embrace Your grace, and step into the destiny You have prepared for me. Fill me with courage, hope, and love as I walk in Your purpose. Amen.
