Fasting and Prayer
Oh Lord, Let Your Will Be Done
"May your kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven." Matthew 6:10 (NLT)
When we pray for God's will to be done, we are indirectly asking Him to establish His kingdom and carry out His perfect plans in our lives.
Our perspective changes when we pray for God's will. His will automatically meets our needs, so we don't need to strive for our own will to be done. Our "self," egos, and vainglory are crucified when we pray for God's will.
The will of God needs to be prayed for in the earthly realm before He can act. If our prayer does not invite God, He will not intervene.
Why do we need to know the will of God?
1. Praying in Alignment with God’s Will:
If you are unaware of God's will, it becomes challenging to pray in accordance with it. For example, in 2 Kings 4:33-35, Prophet Elisha and the woman recognised that it was not God's will for the boy to die prematurely. Consequently, Prophet Elisha prayed fervently until the boy was restored to life. Knowing God's will empowers us to reject passive acceptance of life's adversities and to pray with purpose and direction.
2. Resisting Temptation through Knowledge of God's Will:
Understanding God's will is crucial in overcoming temptations to sin. In Matthew 4:1-11, Jesus successfully resisted the devil's temptations because He had a perfect understanding of God's will. When the devil attempted to distort God’s word, Jesus was able to counter him effectively. Without a clear understanding of God's will, one becomes vulnerable to the devil's manipulations, potentially leading to spiritual and moral failure.
3.Safety, Blessing, and Wealth Within God's Will:
Our safety, blessings, and prosperity are encompassed within the will of God. Ignorance of God’s will can leave us vulnerable to the devil’s exploitation. As stated in 3 John 2, "Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers."
Some people mistakenly believe that sickness or poverty might be part of God's will for their lives. This misconception leads them to accept afflictions that are, in reality, the work of the devil. It's essential to stand against anything that contradicts God's will for our lives.
4. Living in Obedience Through Knowledge of God’s Will:
To live in obedience to God's will, we must first understand it. If we are unaware of what God's will entails, we risk unknowingly acting against it. This concept is echoed in Hebrews 10:7, where it says, “Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come— In the volume of the book it is written of Me— To do Your will, O God.’”
Understanding God’s will gives us a clear direction and purpose, aligning our lives with His divine plan. It’s not merely about avoiding wrongdoing but proactively seeking to fulfil God's desires in every aspect of our lives. This commitment to doing God’s will is a journey of continuous learning and growth, where we align our will with His, leading to a fulfilling and obedient relationship with God.
5. Whenever we don’t walk in agreement with the will of God, the devil swings into action to attack us
Nor give place to the devil. (Ephesians 4:27)
6. The devil accuses us when we are living outside the will of God
Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the Lord, and satan standing at his right hand to oppose him. (Zechariah 3:1)
7. God cannot do anything outside His will
You ask and do not receive because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. (James 4:3). We cannot receive answers when our prayers are outside the will of God.
8. We cannot fulfil destiny outside the will of God
4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. (John 15:4-7)
2 Vital keys to knowing God’s will and plan for your life
1.Walk with God
You must cultivate your relationship with God. You must seek to know Him and not just seek to know about Him.
You will cultivate that relationship best by spending time in His Word, taking time for prayer, and taking every opportunity you can to be involved in church and get under a J-12 leader etc. When you seek these disciplines in your life, God will begin the first steps to revealing His plan to you.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
2. Obey what you already know to be God’s Will
Many people seem to want to know what God’s plan is for their lives, but they overlook the fact that 98 percent of His will is already revealed carefully through His Word. God is very clear about many, many aspects of His will. For instance, it is clearly His plan that we abstain from sexual immorality.
For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality (1 Thessalonians 4:3).
If we do not obey the things that God has shown us clearly to be His will, why would we think He would reveal any further information regarding His plan for our lives?
Prayer
Repeat every prayer missile till it comes from your heart. Only then move on to the next prayer missile. Don’t rush.
