A Secret Concerning Your Job

So Elijah left there and found Elisha, son of Shaphat, whose ploughing was being done with twelve yoke of oxen, and he drove the twelfth. Elijah crossed over to him and cast his mantle upon him. (1 kings 19:19)

The first thing we see about Elisha is that he was a ploughman; he was a hard worker. If you read the bible, you will see that God very often called people while they were at work. For example, the Apostles Peter, James, John and Andrew were called while they were working as fishermen. Moses, the man of God, was called by the Lord when he was keeping his father-in-law, Jethro’s sheep. Even prophet Elisha received his call while he was at work.

There are many people who write to me saying, “Pastor, the job that I have got is a small job.” No job is small or big; it is our thinking that makes it so. In God’s economy, there is no small work. The Bible tells us, “Whatever your hand finds do it with all your might.” (Ecclesiastes 9:10)

It does not matter what people say about your job, do your job with Christ in mind and for His glory and name’s sake, knowing that your labour in the Lord is not in vain. (1 Corinthians 15:58) When you do this, it will give birth to integrity and faithfulness.

Why do I say this? This is because your job is not your real source. Your job is not your real security. It is the LORD who supplies all our needs according to His riches in glory through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19) Your job is only a channel, whereas God is your real source of all provision.

If one channel gets closed, then God is able to open another channel in your life. God is not limited. Do not fear. Many people have believed the lie of the devil that their job is what keeps them secure. Nothing can be farther from the truth.

Economies may rise and fall; stock markets may go up and down; first, know that God is your source. Second, whatever job you currently have or may get, do it with all your might. I prophesy that God will not only meet your needs but also fulfil your desires. God is no respecter of persons. He is not a partial God. (Acts 10:34). As it happened to Elisha, so will it happen to you. His mantle of love and grace will fall upon you.

Father, I thank You for being my source of all blessings. Use my labour to birth discipline in my life. Make my labour a blessing to many around me, in Jesus’ name.
