Fasting and Prayer
Bless Me Indeed
"And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, "Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!" So God granted him what he requested." (1 Chronicles 4:10)
The blessing is a tangible spiritual force that produces earthly exploits and results. Our fathers in the faith understood the power of the blessing. The blessing was a major priority in their lives. They craved it, prayed for it, and wrestled for it like Jacob. Unfortunately, we are in an era where little attention is paid to the tangibility of the blessing. Everyone is going after a temporary display of emptiness.
Praying for the blessing is one of the most important prayers a believer must always pray. At every stage of life, we need new blessings for the new levels we find ourselves.
Who can bless?
There are different people who can bless.
1. God. After God created everything, He pronounced a blessing over everything. Up until now, the blessing is still in force, even though sin has prevented man from enjoying the fullness of the blessing.
"God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them..." (Genesis 1:27, NKJV)
2. A person high in position. In the spiritual realm, hierarchy is respected. A good example is when God commanded that we should honour our parents. Parents hold a higher position than their children, and they have the ability to bless or curse. Rueben was cursed by his father (Genesis 49:3-4). Jacob went ahead to bless his other children. Jacob understood that, as a father, his position empowers him to bless his children.
"The blessings of your father Have excelled the blessings of my ancestors, Up to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills. They shall be on the head of Joseph, And on the crown of the head of him who was separate from his brothers. All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father spoke to them. And he blessed them..." Genesis 49:26, 28
3. God's representatives. God's servants can also bless you. Your pastor, prophet, anyone in the five-fold ministry, or someone spiritually higher than you can bless you. The blessing is released by those who have spiritual authority.
4. Those who are blessed can also bless others. It is what you have that you can give to others. If a person is blessed, they automatically have the potential to be a blessing to others.
"I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing." Genesis 12:2
God promised Abraham that He would bless him, but also commanded him that, "...And you shall be a blessing."
We are blessed to bless. We must not forget that every blessing of God to us empowers us to bless others. If we fail to bless, it will limit the flow of God's blessings to us. We are stewards of God's blessings, and we must carefully distribute them to anyone He sends us to. Today, we shall pray and fast to position ourselves for the blessing.
