Nevertheless for David’s sake the Lord his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, by setting up his son after him and by establishing Jerusalem; (1 Kings 15:4)
According to Chronicles, his name is spelt Abijah, and it means "Yahweh is my father." Kings' given name is Abijam, which when translated to English means "my father is Yam." Yam was a sea deity in Canaanite mythology. It is possible that he began his life as Abijah, a devotee of Yahweh, but then transformed himself into Abijam, a believer of a god that was not the true God.
He banished the perverted persons from the land (1 Kings 15:12)
These state-sanctioned homosexual idol-temple prostitutes were introduced into Judah during the reign of Rehoboam (1 Kings 14:24). Asa’s father Abijam didn’t remove these perversions and idols, but King Asa did.
Also he removed Maachah his grandmother from being queen mother, because she had made an obscene image of Asherah (1 Kings 15:13)
This demonstrates the thoroughness of Asa’s reforms. He was able to act righteously even when his family was wrong, in particular his own grandmother. “It is in a man’s own family circle that his faithfulness is put fairly to the test”
Asa showed no compromise when it even came to his family.
