Chapter 3

Book / 19 / 1856 chapter - 3
761
1 My son, do not forget my law,
But let your heart keep my commands;
2 For length of days and long life
And peace they will add to you. (Proverbs 3:1-2)

do not forget my law
Here is a reminder to always keep God’s word as the centre of our lives. And yet there are times when some go for days without even reading, studying or meditating on it.

But let your heart keep my commands
Notice scripture admonishes us our hearts to keep His commands. Keeping the commands should not be just some ‘eye service’ but something that resonates deep within. There can be times when we can outwardly show that we keep the commands and yet inwardly not.

Two important benefits of keeping the word
1. Length of days and long life

2. Peace they will add to you.
Shalom – peace, which means welfare and prosperity, order and harmony.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding; (Proverbs 3:5)

When the Bible tells us in this verse not to lean on our own understanding, it is not encouraging us to be irrational. What we are told not to lean on is our “own understanding,” meaning conclusions based primarily on our own perceptions.

13 Happy (blessed, fortunate, enviable) is the man who finds skilful and godly Wisdom, and the man who gets understanding [drawing it forth from God’s Word and life’s experiences],
14 For the gaining of it is better than the gaining of silver, and the profit of it is better than fine gold. (Proverbs 3:13-14 AMPC)

Notice, understanding can be gained from:
1. God’s word and
2. Life’s experiences
3. Also, Daniel interceded, asking God for understanding regarding the Scriptures. (Daniel 10:12-14)
