And the Lord said to him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men who sigh and groan over all the abominations that are committed in the midst of it. (Ezekiel 9:4)
Slay outright the elderly, the young man and the virgin, the infant and the women; but do not touch or go near anyone on whom is the mark. Begin at My sanctuary. So they began with the old men who were in front of the temple [who did not have the Lord’s mark on their foreheads]. (Ezekiel 9:6)
Who gets the Mark?
....set a mark upon the foreheads of the men who sigh and groan over all the abominations that are committed in the midst of it.
In a city rife with abominations there were still people who were crying and sighing about the things that were done in the city. They were the righteous people.
In Genesis 4:15, we see the Lord saying to Cain, "Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold." And the LORD set a mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him.
The mark protected Cain. We don’t know what that mark was.
Just as God marks His people so also the devil marks his people.
Revelation 13:16 tells us so: “He (the devil) causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads,
If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. (John 15:19)
You must be different from the people of the world. You are not to be bound by the principles of the world.
What is the mark that God puts upon us?
The mark is the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, (Ephesians 1:13)
Why is the Mark needed?
1.Protection
Do not come near anyone on whom is the mark
Jesus continues in John 16:13, However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
2.Guidance into all Truth
He will tell you things to come so that you are prepared in advance
Slay outright the elderly, the young man and the virgin, the infant and the women; but do not touch or go near anyone on whom is the mark. Begin at My sanctuary. So they began with the old men who were in front of the temple [who did not have the Lord’s mark on their foreheads]. (Ezekiel 9:6)
The judgement of God begins at the house of God
For the time [has arrived] for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will [be] the end of those who do not respect or believe or obey the good news (the Gospel) of God? (1 Peter 4:17)
[The Spirit] cried in my ears [in the vision] with a loud voice, saying, Cause those to draw near who have charge over the city [as executioners], every man with his destroying weapon in his hand. (Ezekiel 9:9)
We often talk of demonic forces controlling the city. However, the truth is that angelic forces have also been assigned to every city.
