and reaching from the east border to the west, Dan, one [portion]. (Ezekiel 48:1)
Dan is omitted in a listing of the tribes regarding the 144,000 in Revelation 7. Many think it was because Dan was the first tribe to embrace idolatry (Genesis 49:16-17 and Judges 17-18). Now, as a demonstration of God’s great grace, not only is Dan included, they are listed first.
The distance around the city shall be 18,000 [4 x 4,500] measures; and the name of the city from that day and ever after shall be, the lord is there. (Ezekiel 48:39)
The very last chapter of the book of Ezekiel is a description of the size and dimensions of a new city. This will be the city of God that will last forever. It is where God will dwell with His people and its gates are one for each of the tribes of Israel.
Each city in the world is usually known for something - things good and bad. This city will be known as ‘The Lord is There’ - this is its identity. The Lord is There - Jehovah Shammah. This is one of the compound names of God found in the Old Testament. It means the Lord is present.
