And no one puts new wine into old wineskins… New wine calls for new wineskins.” (Mark 2:22)
In biblical times, wine was stored in leather wineskins, not glass bottles. When the wineskins were new, they were soft and flexible. They could stretch as the wine fermented. But as they grew older, they became hard and brittle.
If new wine was poured into an old wineskin, it would expand and the wineskin would burst. The result? Both the wine and the container would be lost.
Jesus used this simple picture to teach a deep spiritual truth.
God Is Ready… But Are We Ready?
God is always ready to pour out something new—new blessings, new opportunities, new levels of grace.
But the real question is: Are we ready to receive it?
Sometimes we pray for increase, for a breakthrough, for open doors. But we continue with the same mindset, the same habits, and the same patterns.
Old wineskins cannot hold new wine.
What limits God is not His power—it is our capacity. And capacity grows only when we are willing to change.
I sense this strongly: “Change your wineskin. Change your lifestyle.”
The Danger of Staying the Same
There is a common saying: Doing the same thing again and again and expecting different results is insanity.
Yet many of us fall into this trap.
We want new results, but we resist change.
We want growth, but we hold on to comfort.
We want God to do something new, but we cling to old ways of thinking, speaking, and living.
If nothing changes, nothing changes.
Why Jesus Asked About Time
As you study the life of Jesus, you will notice something interesting.
Before healing people, He often asked, “How long have you been like this?”
To the man at the pool of Bethesda: “How long have you been here?” — 38 years (John 5)
To the woman bent over: 18 years (Luke 13)
To the blind man: blind since birth (John 9)
Why did Jesus ask this?
It was not because He needed information. He already knew.
He asked so that the miracle would be fully understood.
When people heard “38 years,” “18 years,” or “since birth,” they realized something powerful:
No condition is permanent in the presence of God.
Time may make something look permanent—but with God, it is never too late.
It’s Time to Change Your Wineskin
Some people have been stuck in the same situation for years—financial struggles, emotional pain, broken habits, spiritual dryness.
But today, God is saying: “It’s time for something new.”
The question is—are you willing to change?
- Maybe it’s your mindset.
- Maybe it’s your daily routine.
- Maybe it’s your prayer life.
- Maybe it’s the people you surround yourself with.
New wine requires a new wineskin.
You may not be able to go back and change your past.
But you can start today.
You can decide today to think differently, speak differently, live differently.
As someone wisely said:
“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.”

Prayer
Father, with You, all things are possible. You will turn my situation around; You will bring my dream to pass. Holy Spirit, renew me, change me so that I can hold what You are pouring. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
