Change
Yesterday, we looked at two key factors that work against change. These are the things that keep people from experiencing a blessed life. Today, we shall explore the remaining three. These factors hinder many from going to the next level in our journey.
3. REBELLION – “I Don’t Want to Change”
Rebellion is not ignorance. It is not a weakness. It is a conscious decision.
Rebellion says, “I know I need to change… but I don’t want to.”
This is dangerous because the person is aware of the truth, yet chooses to resist it. Over time, this resistance hardens the heart. What was once a small hesitation becomes a stronghold.
The Bible gives a very serious warning about rebellion:
“For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.” (1 Samuel 15:23)
Why is rebellion compared to witchcraft? Because both reject God’s authority and try to replace it with self-will.
King Saul is a powerful example. He had everything going for him—he was chosen by God, anointed as king, and admired by people. Yet, one thing destroyed his destiny: rebellion. He partially obeyed God, but insisted on doing things his own way.
From the outside, it may have looked like obedience. But God looks at the heart.
Rebellion may not always be loud. Sometimes it is silent:
“I know what God is saying… but not now.”
“I will change… but later.”
“I understand… but I still prefer my way.”
These small compromises slowly distance us from God’s best.
If you truly desire change, rebellion must be confronted. Surrender is the key. When you say, “Lord, not my will, but Yours be done,” transformation begins.
4. LAZINESS – “I Don’t Feel Like Changing”
Laziness is not just about sleeping too much. It is a mindset.
It says, “I know I should change… but I don’t feel like it.”
Change requires effort. It requires discipline. It requires consistency. And this is where many people stop.
They are not willing to pay the price for growth.
The Bible describes this clearly:
“A little extra sleep, a little more slumber… then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit.” (Proverbs 6:9–11)
Notice—it says a little. Laziness does not destroy suddenly. It works slowly, quietly, and comfortably.
You may feel:
- “I’ll start tomorrow.”
- “It’s okay, just one more day.”
- “I’m doing fine, nothing is wrong.”
This is the deception of laziness it makes you feel comfortable in a place where you are actually stagnant.
Great people are not always more talented. They are simply more disciplined.
If you want to see change, you must act even when you don’t feel like it. Discipline will take you where motivation cannot.
5. IGNORANCE – “I Never Thought About Changing”
Ignorance is subtle but deadly.
It says, “I didn’t know… I never thought about it.”
But in the Kingdom of God, ignorance is not an excuse.
Jesus said that even the servant who did not know his master’s will was still held accountable:
“To whom much is given, much will be required.” (Luke 12:48)
And the Bible clearly says:
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” (Hosea 4:6)
Many people are not resisting change they are simply unaware that they need to change. They continue in wrong patterns, wrong thinking, and wrong habits, because no one has corrected them or they have not sought truth.
Ignorance keeps people comfortable, but it also keeps them limited.
The good news is this: ignorance can be removed.
When you begin to seek God’s Word, when you expose yourself to truth, when you ask questions and stay teachable—light begins to shine.
And where there is light, change becomes possible.
- Rebellion resists change.
- Laziness delays change.
- Ignorance ignores change.
But humility, discipline, and knowledge will lead you into transformation.
If you are willing to deal with these three areas, you will not remain the same. Change will not just be a desire it will become your reality.
