The Law of Honor In Relationships

If you want to see fulfilment in your relationships, be it at work, home or any place, you must learn the principle of honour.

What you honour will come towards you, and what you dishonour will go away from you. For example, when you honour money by using it and investing it wisely, then money will flow towards you; otherwise, you will have to go in search of it. This principle of honour can be applied to relationships as well.

Back in the Old Testament, God gave His people 10 Commandments.

The first four commandments deal with honouring God.
The last six commandments deal with honouring people.

Before I go ahead, I must confess that in times past, I have made many mistakes in practising the principle of honour. However, I am eternally grateful to the Blessed Holy Spirit who has been patiently holding my hand and teaching me all along.

When we look at the people around us, we don’t require a Master’s degree in psychology to see the irritating habits, the serious letdowns, the failures, and forget the fact that beneath all that dirt, God has hidden treasure. (2 Corinthians 4:7)

Apostle Paul wrote, “We are like common clay jars that carry this glorious treasure within….” (2 Corinthians 4:7)

If we are to build successful relationships, we must learn to honour each other by looking past common human weaknesses and appreciate the incredible value that resides in each one of us. Each one of us has something to offer to another. When we realize this truth, positive thoughts and feelings for each other will increase. The flip side is, if we don’t do this, we will end up taking each other for granted.

Your future is determined by who you choose to honour, and if you fail in your life, it will be because of a person you have chosen to dishonour.

However, beyond words and feelings, true honour is expressed in deeds and actions.

Some questions to ask?
Have I taken my family (my wife, children for granted)?
Have I taken the people who work with me for granted?
Have I taken the men and women of God in my life for granted?

Go through a reflection process in this manner and think of ways you can honour them. Remember, what you sow is what you reap. You sow honour, it will come back to you.
Prayer
Father God, I thank You for every blessing in my life. You are worthy of all honour and praise. Teach me to honour You and Your people. In Jesus Name. Amen.
