Names and Titles of the Spirit
Spirit of God
The Spirit of God is the title of the Holy Spirit associated with
1. Power
2. Prophecy and
3. Guidance
The first title of the Spirit in the Old Testament is the Spirit of God. We first encounter the Spirit of God by this name in Genesis.
In the beginning, God (prepared, formed, fashioned, and) created the heavens and the earth.
The earth was without form and an empty waste, and darkness was upon the face of the very great deep. The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters. (Genesis 1:1-2 Amplified)
According to these verses, we can see that the Holy Spirit was also involved in creation.
Scripture says, the Spirit of God was moving upon the face of the great deep (waters). The Amplified Bible gives us two meanings of the word moving - hovering and brooding.
It clearly conveys the idea of a bird sitting in a nest, hovering and brooding over her eggs, caring for the new lives. The same word is used to describe how “an eagle stirs up its nest, [and] hovers over its young” in Deuteronomy 32:11.
Later, the same Spirit of God came upon Saul and caused him to prophesy (see 1 Samuel 10:10).
He also came upon Zechariah and enabled him to proclaim the Word of the Lord (see 2 Chronicles 24:20).
And Ezekiel's vision of the restoration of Israel was given "by the Spirit of God" (Ezekiel 11:24).
Scripture declares in Romans 8:14: "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God."
The Spirit of God created the universe. He is the Spirit of prophecy. He's the Spirit of power, and He is the Spirit of guidance. Do you know that you (your body) is the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? (1 Corinthians 3:16)
So then, as Christians, we need to take care of our bodies, knowing that our bodies are temples of the living God, valuable and a testimony of our relationship to Christ for others to see.
Prayer
My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and all the fullness of God dwells in me. I glorify God in my body and in my spirit which are His. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
